In the world of Shift At Midnight, you’re alone. But the void is replaced with a pet that you can choose at the beginning of the story. While there is no special perk you’ll get from them, it’s up to you to choose the one that fits your liking.
Although it has to be mentioned, choosing a pet is important for the lore, as you start working to keep them alive. Since their survival is directly tied to the storytelling, you need to do your best at your midnight gig. In this guide, I’ll share everything you need to know about your pet and what you should be doing to ensure they live.
All Pet Types You Can Find in Shift At Midnight

No matter what pet you choose, the financial burden remains the same in Shift At Midnight. As it currently stands, there are four options available to you, and they are as follows:
- Big Dog
- Small Dog
- Cat
- Goose
You’re only picking the pet as the protagonist (which is you) lives alone, and they wish to live a simple life. However, the pet gets sick, and the bills end up being expensive. There are no special bonuses attached to these pets whatsoever. I’d suggest you pick a pet that aligns with your preference.
How To Keep Your Pet Alive in Shift At Midnight

To save your pet, you need to save up your personal funds, which you get at the end of every night. The base personal fund you get at the end of every night is $10. You also get a 10% commission bonus from store sales. Let’s pey say at the end of day three you get $115 revenue, so you’ll get $11 as your personal fund.
The story mode of Shift At Midnight will present you with medical bills for your pet. You need to make sure you have enough money to pay them off. Here are the bill payment timings you’ll get throughout the game:
| Medical Bill Intervals | Money Required | Effect Of Your Action |
|---|---|---|
| First day at the shift (Tutorial) | $20 | The first treatment is done, but your pet needs more care. |
| End of third night | $40 | Your pet recovers and joins you during the shift. However, they need surgery to be completely fine. |
| On 13th night | $250 | Dictates what kind of ending you receive. |
The main story has a total of 13 nights, which gives you a total of $130 BY default. However, you need a total of $310 to make sure your pet survives. So you need to raise $1800 from the store itself to get a commission of $180.
My suggestion would be to focus on tending to your customers and checking if they are doppelgangers. Additionally, they are the main source of income in the game, so tend to that as well. Moreover, check them properly, because incorrect calls will end up reducing store revenue.
