2026 has already given us some gems, and the good thing is that it looks like we are just getting started. The second half of the year is absolutely packed to the rafters with new releases that look set to storm into any best games of 2026 list. Among these games, we have cherry-picked for you the ones that we think you should definitely watch out for. The one nuance that we have added to this list is only picking those with a confirmed release date. So, here is the list of the most anticipated games of 2026 with confirmed release dates.

Minecraft Dungeons 2

Ever since the game was first announced during the Minecraft Live event in Mar 2026, the upcoming hack-n-slash RPG with an emphasis on exploration has been climbing the wishlist charts across all platforms, and, considering how popular the first game turned out to be, it looks like Mojang Studios and Xbox have a solid hit already on their hands. The story picks up from the first game and promises a decent set of co-op options as well.
Final Fantasy Resonance

The first 2D-HD game in the series, this one is actually a reimagining of the Brave Exvius – which was a free to play gacha game for mobile back in 2015. At one point in time, this game had some 40 million-plus downloads, but the microtransactions kind of did the game in, and it was shut down for everyone in 2024. Final Fantasy Resonance, of course, is a different beast altogether, and has all the classic turn-based systems, a sprawling open world, party members to recruit, and skills and abilities to unleash like any good 2D-HD game.

Side-scroller action games have been enjoying a bit of a mini-revival – what with the immense popularity of Hollow Knight: Silksong, to the under-appreciated gem that was Prince of Persia The Lost Crown, to the Spanish gothic tough-as-nails Blasphemous 2. To this, we now potentially have the next, and the 26th entry in the celebrated Castlevania series. The series chronology stretches from 1094 to 2036, and this one is set in 1499 between the events of Dracula’s Curse and the Curse of Darkness.

The sequel to the first and a successful outing in the dark fantasy action RPG genre, the second Path of Exile game released in EA in Dec 2024, and it has had two years to finetune and sharpen up before the full 1.0 release. And this time spent shows. The game, even with EA, has had a peak player count of 500k+, a number which most full release games don’t reach, and a 74%+ rating with over 200k reviews.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake

The original game came out way back in 1998 on the N64, and after almost 30 years, we are getting the remake that got announced around a week or so back, at the Nintendo Direct. Needless to say, this is big – the original, after all, is a frequent entry in most ‘best video games of all time’ lists, and one of the few games that is confident enough to have a release date close to the GTA 6 behemoth.

Another studio looking to shake things up, Control Resonant transforms the intense gun battles of the first (and brilliant) entry in the series into a pure play melee bashing festival, and trailers and early gameplay videos look suitably intense and visceral – to say the least. In the developers’ own words – ‘If Jesse was a cat, Dylan (the protagonist for this game) is a dog’. The world also looks to be much bigger in scope, with Manhattan seemingly taken over by Hiss as the playground for Dylan to unleash his new weapons and abilities. Hands-on previews for the game have had people come back impressed, and everything looks to be coming together nicely for the game’s launch a couple of months from now.
Phantom Blade Zero

Right off the bat, with the first trailer reveal back in PlayStation State of Play 2023, the game garnered curiosity and attention, what with the enigmatic first line ‘What is your plan, knowing that you have only 66 days to live?’, before dazzling us with some sharp, aggressive, and intensely high-speed combat montage. Over subsequent trailers, as the world and the combat was further fleshed out, the hype and anticipation around the game only increased, making it one of the most wishlisted games with a confirmed release date on SteamDB.

Ok, so technically not a new game, but we at GamesHorizon are not planning to miss out on any chance to canter along with Roach one more time – and if this one comes with revamped graphics, kill and spell animations, traversal, etc. What’s more – this comes free to all who own the base game – giving them a chance, if, for some reason, they still have not got their hands on the 2 excellent DLCs .

Coming from the studio that gave us the Ghostrunner series, the game takes the interesting mix of the classic souls-like, but in frantic first person, with huge emphasis on parries, blocks and critical hits, all while armed with … a cutlass, a flintlock and magical abilities. The other plus that the game has is the setting , something that we don’t see often enough – a plague-riddled Eastern Europe, thanks to Napoleon Bonaparte.

And to absolutely no one’s surprise, we come to that game which people have been waiting for more than 13 years, and is one of the reasons why unlike previous years, the September release calendar looks so packed – what with all game developers and publishers wanting to give a wide berth to November – for that, is the month where gaming industry’s marquee event finally lands after years of buildup (and delays), for PS5 and Xbox Series S/X – GTA 6. Enough said.
