Shift At Midnight might be a horror game, but it also features a shop simulation that makes it deeply challenging. While you’re constantly confronted with supernatural forces, you also have to ensure the store remains of the utmost quality so you can keep it running. Fail to do so, and you’ll lose customers and the opportunity to earn revenue.
During my first run, I realised the shop rating isn’t something to be taken lightly. Thus, I’ve written this guide on how to improve it, alongside all the responsibilities you’ll have to carry in Shift At Midnight.
What Is Shop Rating, and How Can It Be Improved?
Shop rating is crucial for Shift At Midnight as it dictates how many customers visit you every night. A lower rating means you’ll get fewer sales and yield less revenue. If you have to beat the game, you need to make sure the shop rating remains spotless.
In my experience, the best way to improve shop rating is to purchase decor and add it to your store. You can do the same by using the computer in the aisle heading into the shop menu to purchase decor. The shop refreshes each night, but you can use the refresh token to bring new items instantly.
You can also check the shop rating directly from the computer at the checkout aisle. I’d recommend checking it often, as the stats tell you where you’re lacking. Be it stocks, decor, or blood spills, everything is displayed on the screen. I’d recommend keeping the rating at least 4 stars, as it gives you balanced results. Yet, keep your goal towards 5 stars.
What Strategy Should You Follow To Improve Shop Rating?
You don’t have to start with expensive decor; you can simply get plants, posters, and other cheap items to improve your shop decor points. Once you’ve placed an order, wait for the delivery truck to come in and pick up the decor item to place it.
However, your shop rating drops if you don’t keep the shop clean and restocked. For example, if you keep monster remains, rats, and blood spills, customers would leave bad reviews. It’s essential to clean the shop using your mop. Cleaning the shop also grants you passive money ($0.10), which is a bonus.
If you’re playing in multiplayer, it’s best to ask your friends to take up roles and focus on them. For those playing solo, it’s best to dispose of body remains and clean the blood spills later on. Customer satisfaction impacts store rating as well. I’d suggest you tend to your customers quickly, so they don’t have to wait for long.
Overall, your main target is to keep the shop cleaned and ensure customers are well attended. Do all this correctly, and customers will buy more and give you more store funds to buy weapons, traps, and secure personal funds (which you need to save your pet).
If you’re failing to upkeep it, the store manager will call you, and it’s best to attend to it immediately. Additionally, check the emails as well, since they all have alerts about what things are going wrong at the store.
What Roles Do You Have To Play in Shift At Midnight?
For those playing the story mode of Shift At Midnight, there are 13 nights you have to survive at the store you’re working. During this entire tenure, you’re met with threats like Doppelgangers, hunters, and more. Furthermore, you’ll have to upkeep the store’s inventory, decorate it, and even clean up messes. Here’s a checklist you should follow while playing the game:
- Check if the customer is a doppelganger.
- Restock supplies on shelves.
- Clean dead remains and blood spills.
- Shoot down monsters attacking you.
- Decorate the shop.
- Tend to customers as quickly as possible.
Whether you’re playing with friends or solo, these tasks are a mandate from day one. If you do all these tasks without any errors, you can get the good ending at the end of day 13 in the game.
