There is a quest in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake where you have to find Richard the dog at its owner’s request. This quest was present in the original game as well, but the location itself seems to be different for each player. Instead, you will need to learn about the identifying marks for Richard. I will show you how to pick out Richard from the other dogs and what you get for doing so.
Richard Location in Zelda Ocarina of Town Remake

The quest to find Richard starts in Hyrule Castle Town. However, you cannot start it when you visit it for the first time. Later, when you return to the same location at night (after delivering Princess Zelda’s letter to Kakariko Village), you can talk to the lady who is standing south of the fountain area. I have also marked the owner’s location in the minimap for your convenience.
Talk to the owner, and after the short conversation, search the plaza area for the missing dog. There are many dogs in the area, but only one of them is Richard.
How To Find Richard in The Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time Remake

I found Richard on the left side of the map. However, the location does not seem to be fixed, according to the information provided by other players. Richard has a habit of wandering the area. Here are the distinguishing features that separate Richard from other dogs:
- White dog
- Emits a high-pitched bark
- Spins if you click ‘Play’ on him (the above picture shows the spinning animation he does)
There are not many white dogs in the area, and even fewer will do spins. So, once you find the correct dog, bring him back to the owner. The lady will check if the dog you have brought is the correct one or not. If it is wrong, then just check another white dog.

Once the correct dog has been brought to her, she will proclaim her joy and reward you with a Piece of Heart. You can gain an additional heart upon gaining four of these. Afterwards, the owner will ask Richard to go back home, prompting Richard to run off again. However, this time, you know everything to spot the cues and bring back the right dog.
