On May 10, the official website of Jujutsu Kaisen announced that the theme songs of the upcoming arc has been decided. The opening is called Ao no Sumika (Where Our Blue Is), which will be sung by artist Tatsuya Kitani, who had earlier contributed to a song titled Scar for Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War. Sharing about the meaning and story of Ao no Sumika, Kitani said that the song is about an “adult” person’s reflection about various things, such as nostalgia and “bitter regret.” He said:
“The day I felt like I could go anywhere, like nothing was blocking my view. The day I realised that no matter how close ‘I’ and ‘you’ were, no matter how much we felt like we were looking towards the same future, we were definitely different. The day I was devastated by an error that would take a lifetime to recover from, a loss that would never touch me again.”

Interestingly, some fans have assumed that Kitani’s interpretation of the song is based on young Gojo’s perspective on Geto when they were attending school together. Kitani further continued:
“I sometimes take out and look at these precious memories of spring in my life. They can be seen in the colours of sweet reminiscence or bitter regret, and they become a walking stick for the heart after one has become an ‘adult’. This is the song of a human being who has walked in that way.”

On the news of the opening of Gojo’s Past arc, or Hidden Inventory/Premature Death arc, 20-year-old singer and songwriter Soushi Sakiyama will be performing Akari (Light). Sakiyama recently contributed to My Hero Academia’s season 5’s second ending with Uso ja Nai (It’s not a lie). Sharing his enthusiasm on being able to contribute to the theme song of Jujutsu Kaisen season 2, Sakiyama shared:
“I am very honored to be involved in the great work of Jujutsu Kaisen with the ED song ‘Light.’ ‘Light’ is a song with the theme of the change of heart that is born as a result of the accumulated experiences and anguish of the character Suguru Geto, and the thoughts of the characters surrounding Geto. I think the mind is more delicate and vaguer than we can imagine, and it is like a tightrope walker. To respect my heart, my loved ones, and others. That’s my wish for this song. I hope you all like it. Thank you.”
With the anticipation for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 building up, it remains to be seen what new announcements will be made in the coming few weeks before the anime’s premiere.
