Blasphemous 2 was announced with the release of the Wounds of Eventide, the final expansion to the original game. The critically acclaimed Blasphemous from The Game Kitchen is a Soulslike side-scrolling Metroidvania adventure, and the sequel promises to bring more of that.
As per the indie studio, the first game was played by over a million people. It even received Indie Game of The Year at the 2019 Titan Awards and was nominated for the Best Art category.
Blasphemous 2 is all set to release on August 24, 2023.

Blasphemous 2 platforms
The game will come out on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch on August 24. The development has begun for last-gen consoles, namely, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The expected release date on those platforms is Autumn 2023. The Blasphemous series is known for its retro art style and pixelated charm, hence, a release on older-gen shouldn’t have any hassles.

Blasphemous 2 editions and prices
Two distinct editions of the game are available to preorder on Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG if you are on PC. The choices are the same if you are on consoles; in that case, you’d have to head over to the PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch storefront to go ahead with your purchase.
Blasphemous 2 Standard Edition – $29.99
The Standard Edition contains the base game only. As per a special promo offer, the preorder is on a 10% discount. This brings down the price to $26.99 in case you are making the purchase ahead of its August 24 launch.
Blasphemous 2 Digital Deluxe Edition – $39.99
The Digital Deluxe contains the base game along with a digital artbook and original soundtrack. Similar to the standard edition, the 10% preorder discount applies here too. This brings down the price of this one to $35.99.
Blasphemous 2 storyline
The game is set in what the devs call ‘a perilous new world’. The story picks up from where the last expansion for Blasphemous, The Wounds of Eventide, left off — continuing from the Heart in the Sky’s reappearance, heralding the Miracle’s return, foretelling the birth of a new Miracle child. The player steps in the boots of the Penitent One once again.
The sole survivor of the Brotherhood of Silent Sorrow, the Penitent One is back to ending the cycle of life, death, and rebirth once and for all. Carrying forward the motif in the first game, Blasphemous 2, too, is filled with religious iconography and mythological depictions. The layered dialogue is delivered in Archaic language by mysterious, unhinged NPCs. Couple that with the breathtaking voice acting with a hint of drama, and you have a gripping narrative.
An array of enemies stand in the way of the Penitent one, waiting to send him to the other world. Facing powerful bosses and engaging with grim characters on the way, he must uncover the secrets of this new world. With plenty to see with your palms covering your face in awe, the narrative sucks you in from the first minute.
Blasphemous 2 gameplay
The 2D Soulslike boasts fluid gameplay mechanics and animations. The updated arsenal containing three unique weapons is a new addition to the game. The Mea Culpa was the sole slasher wielded by the silent protagonist in Blasphemous. In the sequel, however, one gets to hack and slash with three new and unique weapons. A bulky, gigantic war sensor, a swift dual-blade combo of a Rapier and a dagger, and the balanced Praying Blade.
It is worth noting that each weapon listed above has its own strengths and weakness, skill tree, and abilities. The brutal executions from the first game make a new and improved reappearance. The newly-added expanded combos also seem to be satisfying with an updated arsenal.
A welcome addition that makes the sequel feel more like a Metroidvania game is the platforming and puzzle-solving. A significant overhaul in this area promises to make the latest entry much less monotonous than the previous one. The arsenal is used to go through mirrors, destroy obstructions, and unlock hidden platforms by ringing bells.
The new Bosses, each with their own attack pattern, prove a fine test of your slashing, parrying, and dodging ability. The sequel also provides news and innovative ways to play. You can customize your skillset and different weapons in accordance with your preferred playstyle.
Blasphemous 2 is set to launch on August 24 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
