Gameplay & Setting
Lords of the Fallen is a third-person action RPG game with precise and difficult combat. Being a Soulslike game, Lords of the Fallen embraces many of the typical elements and tone present in other similar titles such as Elden Ring and Bloodborne. The game will feature a tighter and more curated experience.
The story will continue 1000 years later from its predecessor while following one of the three endings that the 2014 title offered. Which of the ending the upcoming game will follow is kept a mystery until the game’s release.
Differentiating from the original Lords of the Fallen, this reboot incorporates a more sophisticated world that is five times larger than the previous one. The world incorporates two parallel realms:
- Axiom, the land of the living
- Umbral, the land of the dead
Players can easily traverse and cross between the two realms. When the player dies in Axiom, they will spawn in Umbral, after which they have to return to Axiom to recover their XP. When the player dies in Umbral, they will lose their unspent XP and will respawn at their last save point.
You will play as a fully customizable character with nine classes to choose from, and one additional class which is unlocked separately. The ten classes are given below:
- Blackfeather Ranger
- Condemned
- Dark Crusader
- Exiled Stalker
- Hallowed Knight
- Mournstead Infantry
- Orian Preacher
- Partisan
- Pyric Cultist
- Udirangr Warwolf
As you progress in the game, you will obtain an arsenal of weapons and spells through various ways, including slaying enemies and winning boss fights. Along with the single-player mode, the game also features an online co-op, where you can team up with your friends for an adventure.
Size & Playtime
As we mentioned above, the upcoming game is set to feature a map five times bigger than its predecessor. As for the playtime, 2023 Lords of the Fallen will take more than 30 hours to finish.
In a recent interview, the game’s Executive Producer, Saul Gascon, and Creative Director, Cezar Virtosu mentioned that the developer team took around 25 hours to beat the game. However, a new player can expect to take somewhat longer to beat the game while exploring the world.
On top of the three endings, there is the New Game Plus (NG+) mode. This mode will offer a more challenging experience, and hence the completionists may expect to spend a lot more than 30 hours with the game.
