Battlefield 2042 has certainly made a return with its content updates and patches from the initial bad launch it had. Which Studios Are Making The Next Battlefield Game?
Back in May, EA had its earnings briefing where EA CEO Andrew Wilson mentioned that Battlefield will return in an “entirely new way” and that it will have a “truly connected ecosystem”.
This might be a reference to the multiple different experiences for Battlefield that are in the works. Multiple studios have joined the team and are developing their own part of the game. The single-player campaign experience is being developed by Marcus Lehto’s new studio who is a veteran developer for the Halo series.
There is also an “Entirely new Battlefield experience” in the works being made by Ripple Effect. It is yet to be seen if this means a separate Battlefield game altogether, it can also be a large-scale multiplayer experience similar to battle royale but due to the bad reception from Firestorm BR in Battlefield V, it likely isn’t a battle royale mode but something brand new instead.
Leaks also suggest that this new mode might be a free-to-play standalone game, sort of a competitor for Call of Duty’s Warzone. It will feature a big map with a destructible environment, a staple of the battlefield series.
When Will The Next Battlefield Game Come Out?
As of now, there has been no official announcement from EA about when we can expect the next Battlefield title to launch. Battlefield 2042 came out in the year 2021 and the Battlefield game before that, Battlefield V, came out in 2018. So, according to this cycle, the next Battlefield should likely be coming out in 2024.
However, due to the entire reimagination of Battlefield as mentioned by Andrew Wilson, we can expect that this game will take longer than usual and might be pushed back to 2025. There are also leaks suggesting it will be made on a brand new engine which only extends the possible release date.
