Fallout New Vegas is chronologically set right in between all of the Fallout games. For this reason, you might see some recognizable locations and mentions of lore-relevant information throughout the game. One of the locations you might recognize is Shady Sands, but can you physically visit it in Fallout New Vegas?
Visiting Shady Sands In Fallout New Vegas
Unfortunately, you cannot visit the Shady Sands in Fallout New Vegas. Before we tell you why, it is crucial to know its short history.
The Shady Sands settlement was originally introduced in the first Fallout game which took place in the year 2161 in New California. One cannot visit the settlement in Fallout New Vegas because the game is set in the Mojave Desert and the remainder of Las Vegas. Players can visit Shady Sands in Fallout 1 and Fallout 2.
In Fallout 2, it appears as the New Californian Republic. However, there is only a mention of the Shady Sands in Fallout New Vegas, Fallout 3, and Fallout 4. Shady Sands was led by Aradesh and comprised of inhabitants of Vault 13. It eventually became the most powerful faction on the West Coast. It started as a very small community who grew crops to support their living. As time went on the strength of the faction grew, and it became the most influential in New California.
Everyone is questioning if we are going to see the Shady Sands in another Fallout game anytime soon. If you are one of them, then we have news for you.
Note: Spoilers for the Fallout TV Series ahead, discretion advised.
In the Fallout TV Series, the location was destroyed and Todd Howard, confirmed with IGN in an interview that it happened after Fallout New Vegas. Even though, it was destroyed, the players have a pleasant memory of the settlement dating back to the earlier Fallout games.
