Once you make it to the Museum of Marni in Fateful Encounter in Crimson Desert, you will come across a unique candle puzzle in Marni’s Manor. You will find yourself facing the iron gate with unusual machinery on the right. Our task is to figure out the hidden system behind the machinery on the right and set it properly to open the iron gate in the room. The machinery is the puzzle, where we have to turn on specific candles for the machinery to activate the door.
In this guide, I will show how to activate the machinery to open the locked iron gate in Crimson Desert. The game does offer a clue, but it leads to more confusion than offering any sort of helpful solution to the puzzle.
Iron Gate Candle Puzzle Solution in Crimson Desert

You must light all 3 candles linked to the sun glyph (marked with a yellow circle) in the machinery to open the locked gate. The machinery that controls the locked door on the left has six candles. Each candle will be linked to either the sun or the moon; three of them will be connected to the sun, and the other three will be connected to the moon. The sun symbol is shown as a yellow glyph, and the moon is shown in dark purple.
- Light the Candle at 12 o’clock (Top, starting point)
- Light the Candle at 8 o’clock (Bottom-Left)
- Light the Candle at 4 o’clock (Bottom-Right)
You have to manually interact with each candle, and you will get an option to light it on fire. Turning the candles off follows the same interactive button presses. Focus on a candle to turn it on or off.
The image above has all three sun-associated candles marked with yellow circles and moon-linked candles with a red cross. Don’t turn on the candles with red crosses, and you will be fine unlocking the door. Heading through the door will trigger a cutscene, and the investigation of Oongka continues.

Breaking Down the Clue
The Clue: “Light the tallest candle, and let its neighbors sleep. Let light and darkness alternate to complete the circle.”
If you follow the clue, light the candle on the top at 12 o’clock and then let its neighbor candle sleep. Alternate between the candles until you complete the circle. Since we’re starting from the candle linked with the sun glyph, its neighbor will be the moon. That’s the route we will go forward; keep lighting the sun candles and let the candles linked to the moon sleep.
The second part of the clue also follows the same solution, as it wants you to alternate between light and darkness; if you look at the puzzle, the clue will translate to sun and moon. Many players leave with the idea that the tall part of the clue is referring to the tallest candle, which is wrong. Since the puzzle doesn’t feature candles of different sizes, all six candles share the same proportion. The tall refers to the direction of the candle in the machinery or the puzzle.
