When you are playing an action-heavy game with options in every aspect of the gameplay, creating a build is the best way to withstand the onslaught from enemies and take the victory. While it’s all true in most games, some games tend to do things about it differently, and Crimson Moon ditches the traditional class-based system and lets you free-flow through combat with your own build. Here I will help you look at how the build system works in Crimson Moon.
Are There Any Classes in Crimson Moon?
Crimson Moon doesn’t follow traditional character classes; instead, you must rely on your gear or armor, weapon arts, and angels and combine their perks or boons to create a build that befits your playstyle. Every Nephilim is allowed to equip nine pieces of gear. This includes 4 pieces of armor, 2 trinkets, a weapon & shield, or a two-handed weapon. I will focus on the crucial parts that help you create a build in the game.
You must follow the primary gameplay loop to collect the loot to make the build better.
- Start the Hunt
- Defeat enemies and collect all the gear
- Purify and improve the build.
After you return to Sanctus Sleepers, start another hunt to restart the cycle to get better gear. If you are getting low-end gear, you must play at greater difficulties with modifiers to make the game even more challenging, but on the other hand, you will earn more rewards.
Tips: Your first few runs should be about learning the way of combat, so don’t go all out on gear collecting on your early runs.
Armor

As you progress in the game, you will come across higher-tier gear with different rarities. Make sure to grab them, as they not only provide a core stat boost, which is decent, but the true value of the rarity gear lies in the boon, which acts as a perk or talent.
You might get a boon, something as simple as increased damage, or killing enemies restores health, but you also have the chance to get a special boon that allows you to do things such as landing heavy attack hits that have a 30% chance to apply poison. As you can notice, the gears are not simply for appearance or a general stat boost; they are a core part of the build, as they allow you to go deeper into a particular set that builds around poison and heavy damage dealing.
The game also rewards players who stick to one playstyle; if you have picked a particular gear, obtaining all pieces related to the set will award you with more bonuses and gameplay benefits. I advise you to seek matching gear to get better standing in combat.
Note: You can unlock additional boons by returning Lore Scrolls to Mereda, the Librarian.
Weapon Arts:

Weapon Arts are part of your melee weapons; they also act in the same manner as boons in an armor set. The only thing you should pay attention to when you are choosing a perfect weapon art is that it should complement the gear’s boon perks. Weapon arts have cooldowns, so you must always be careful when to use them and have a backup strategy when the art is on cooldown. You will find weapon arts that reward and enhance an offensive playstyle; here, if you have armor that attack-focused, then picking an aggressive weapon art will make the build better.
For example, if your melee hit restores health, then put your effort into aggressive combat. Requiring you to pick specific gear on an offensive playstyle further incentivizes aggressive play and weapon art that also expands the offensive playstyle. If you hate the idea of charging into battle and relying on dodge to survive the enemy blow, the better choice here would be to switch to a defensive playstyle. The game also offers many gear and weapon arts that help you build a solid defense around your character to take in as much damage as humanly possible.
Note: Completing the game will allow you to purify the equipment you picked from the hut, permanently adding it to your possession.
About Multiplayer

Let’s not forget co-op; here you will run into a difficult decision. Instead of working on your own special build, you must work towards creating a build that complements your partner’s build. The goal here is to assemble a build to help out the team more than focusing on yourself. That’s not to say you can’t be creative; if your partner is choosing the offensive playstyle, you have the option to double down by picking offensive as your playstyle too. This will help you land more damage to enemies.
You can also get experimental by choosing a more defensive playstyle, tanking more hits and distracting enemies while your partner lays haymakers on enemies. Talking between your friends to come up with a specialized build that covers the weakness of your partner is the fun part of the game.
Nexus Gates
On your travels, you will come across nexus gates; these serve as a temporary boost to your character, and their effects go away after the run is complete. The decision here boils down to whether to amplify the overall build that you already have on your character or try something new with new perks for new boons or weapons you have acquired on your journey.
Lastly, we have Angelic transformations, which further build up on our character stats. They mix up with the weapon arts and gear’s boon effect to complete your build.
Tips for a Good Hunt
- Before leaving, explore while you are focused on completing primary objectives.
- Always save useful gear; avoid the rest. Look for strong perks and unique effects when you are examining gear.
- Don’t forget the key info here, which is always going to be a boon. If you take a look at any build guide for Crimson Moon, it’s all bent towards setting up perfect sync boons.
- If you already picked the perfect gear, then upgrade the set with the help of the blacksmith. Don’t upgrade everything; again, the rule here is to upgrade the stuff that you want to use or is already part of your current build.
