Some NPCs in Graveyard Keeper 2 have absurd requests that will keep you running around in circles. There are a handful of requests that require a lot of grinding, such as getting the Poetry Book for Gunter the Astrologer. The process behind obtaining the book is quite lengthy, as you require several materials as well as higher-ranking Stories to add to it.
But it is necessary to complete this quest anyway, so you might as well get into it right away. This guide is going to detail how to unlock the Printing Press, find the required materials, how to create your first Poetry Book, and how to increase your book mastery to unlock a gold-star Story in the game.
Rhyme and Printed Quest Guide
As you follow through with Gunter the Astrologer’s storyline in Graveyard Keeper 2, he will ask you to print a Poetry Book. This happens right after you complete the Congregation Trouble quest, and you need to complete this quest if you wish to gain reputation points with him for the Necronomicon book.
First, you need to get yourself a printing press, and the blueprint for it unlocks under the Theology section of the Tech Tree. This happens right after unlocking Books I and working through Gunter’s reputation to unlock the Newspaper section.
With the printing press blueprint unlocked, you can build and place a printing press in your basement. As for the materials to build it, you will require the following:
- Oiled Beam x3 – add Melted Fat x1 and Wooden Beam x2 at the Woodworking Workbench II.
- Bronze Gear x2 – use Bronze Ingot x1 at the Iron Anvil.
- Iron Detail x6 – get Iron Ingot x1 at the Iron or Steel Anvil.
How to Get the Poetry Book
You can now craft the Poetry Book. Crafting the Poetry Book will require:
- Blank Softcover Notebook x1 – requires Leather Scroll x1 and Clean Paper x4 at the Writing Desk.
- Ink x2 – add Ash, Water, and Melted Fat at the Writing Desk.
- Story – requires Faith x3, Paper x2, and Ink x1 at the Writing Desk.
How to Get Story
Blank Softcover Notebook and Ink would have been unlocked and used early in Graveyard Keeper 2, but obtaining Story might be a bit confusing. It’s even harder since you need to get a Gold-ranking Story instead of a normal Story. If you haven’t unlocked Story yet, you will find it under the Tech Tree’s Theology section, and it can be crafted at the Writing Desk.
Gold-ranking story requires 6 book mastery. You can get book mastery by crafting the following from the Tech Tree or unlocking perks:
- Silver Talisman – 2 book mastery.
- Dictionary – 2 book mastery.
- Unlock Book Mastery Inspiration Perks for another 2 book mastery.
Besides this, you also require Insanity, which you can obtain by working without sleep or working on bodies. You need a little bit of Insanity to write your story, so don’t go overboard. With all this equipped, visit the Printing Press to convert all your items into a Poetry Book.
Hand the book to Gunter and speak to him, which will unlock the Necronomicon dialog option. You will also get a PR Agreement sheet as part of the Stars, Lies, and Contracts quest next, which you need to hand over to Jack after helping him rebuild his workshop.
