Faith plays a key role in Graveyard Keeper 2; getting more Faith will help you advance the storyline, unlock more research, and inspiration. When you are starting in the game, the mechanics for Faith stay locked until you encounter a specific NPC by completing a quest in the game. Only after completing a certain quest will you meet a Nun who will put you on the path of Faith building and eventually explain everything you need to know about them.
If you haven’t unlocked this quest and don’t know where to go, here I will explain what you need to focus on early on to start working on getting Faith in Graveyard Keeper 2.
How to Gain Faith in Graveyard Keeper 2

Head inside the church and pray, or give sermons to give a sermon to the masses to gain Faith. While it may appear simple, there are more things going on behind the scenes that make Faith an interesting mechanic.
Basically, faith is tied to Parishioners or visitors who show up to Mass. The more people show up to your church to pray, the more faith you will gain in return. Parishioners are made of Town Gratitude and Church Level.
- Town Gratitude: It’s found under the energy and Insanity section at the top-left of the screen. It can be obtained by trading special items, completing quests, and completing Town Orders. Think of Town Gratitude as the reputation of your character around the town. Trading items that have a Thumbs Up icon will earn you Town Gratitude. The higher the Gratitude, the higher the Faith that you get.
- Church Level: This can be increased by adding more objects to the church, setting up shrines, incense, candles, or just carrying out the upgrades to see the Church level rise, which can be tracked on the top-right part of the HUD. You will find many of the options under the Theology section of the Tech tree; just head on over there to get the much-needed Church upgrades.
Another crucial element is the prayer type; the nun will offer you a Basic Prayer, but you can earn more prayer later on. Get better Prayer under the Theology tree, and it will help you gain more Faith per sermon. You also have a Money prayer, which will help you gain money from preaching to the masses.
Always ensure that you deliver a sermon with Gratitude maxed out – this will then decrease your Gratitude level, which you should then go and do the activities mentioned above to max it, before delivering a sermon again. There are quests that increase Gratitude (those that have Town Gratitude pages as their rewards; and those that involve helping NPCs), so I would also suggest to pace those quests – don’t complete all of them if you already have the Gratitude level maxed out.
The Theology tree will eventually also start helping you get more Faith from your sermons as you unlock perks.
How to Unlock the Church in Graveyard Keeper 2

Head on over to the Quests tab and complete the quest line on the image above. You will need to complete the quest for Jack and the Twin before unlocking the Nun questline. Talk to the Merchant in the village and start completing the quest on the left tree of the Quests page; it will lead you to the questline we need to take on to work on Faith.
Jack in a Boat
In the mission Jack in a Boat, Jack will ask the player to bring him materials to build a boat. This quest takes place right after we deliver the sword and armor during the tutorial. Since the quest has to do with materials, possessing the materials prior to the quest will be the better choice. He will ask for 5 Wooden Planks and 5 Bronze Details.
- Wooden Planks: Head to the Woodworking Workbench and craft the planks out of Boards.
- Bronze Details: Head to the Wooden Anvil and use the Bronze Ingots to craft the Bronze Details. Do note, you need a Hardening Bucket Extension for this one.
Note: Open the Technology tree and research Woodworking I and Bronze Works.
Two Peas in a Pod
You will find the twins over the bridge south of the village. Here you will learn they will only agree to row the boat if you provide them with 5 Clay Plates.
- Get Clay by digging it out of the ground; it is commonly found around the base.
- Now head over to the Technology tree and research Pottery I.
- After the research is complete, build the Potter’s Wheel. Now you will be able to craft Clay Plates out of Clay. Investing 2 Clay will get you 3 Clay Plates; you need only 5 Clay Plates to finish the quest.
After obtaining the Clay Plates, talk to the twins to row the boat. Now the game is about waiting; you need to wait a few days before receiving a letter from Jack. With this letter, we will learn about the Nun returning home, but not the keeper. Now all you have to do is head over to the Tavern and talk to the Nun to unlock the Temple in the town, next to the open cemetery outside. Then, fix up the church, and the nun will explain to you the Faith mechanics.
