How Do I Get Owlbear Cub In Baldur’s Gate 3?
To get the owlbear cub in Baldur’s Gate 3, you need to follow three simple steps:
- Find the Owlbear nest
- Rescue Owlbear cub from Goblin Camp
- Tend to the Owlbear Cub in camp.
Here’s how I did it.
Find The Owlbear Nest
You can find the owlbear nest inside a cave on the northeast side of the Blighted Village. The entrance to the cave is marked by a small stream of water and the nest is further inside from the cave entrance.
Once you are inside the cave and next to the nest, you will be confronted by a guarded mother Owlbear. If one of your characters has “Speak with Animals,” you can use that spell to persuade or intimidate the mother to stand down. If you do not have the skill, you can dice roll to decide and even engage in combat to kill the Owlbear mother so that the cub stops being hostile.
Note: You absolutely do not need to kill the Owlbear mother. If you let the mother live, you will still be able to rescue the cub later in the Goblin Camp.
After dealing with the mother, you will also have the option to either slay the cub or let it live. If you want the little guy as your camp pet, I’d suggest you let it live and head to the next owlbear cub encounter location.

Resue Owlbear Cub in Goblin Camp
Your next task is to rescue the Owlbear cub from the Goblin Camp. Follow these steps:
- Make your way to the camp which lies to the west of Druid Grove and speak to the Goblin Krolla.
- Once you have a chat with her and learn about the Chicken-Chasing sport, you can talk to the cub to show that you mean no harm, invite it to your camp, and let it remember your scent.
- After the talk, speak to Krolla once again and insist on letting the Owlbear cub go. This will prompt you to perform a skill check in which you can use your Illithid powers to convince the lady goblin to free the cub.
You also have other options like buying the cub with gold, participating in Chicken Chasing, or even taking down the entirety of the Goblins in Goblin Camp. But the skill check is the easiest option, in my experience.
If you succeed, the freed cub will run to your camp for shelter.

Tend to Owlbear Cub in Camp
After three long rests in your camp, you will find an injured Owlbear cub that needs urgent care. You will need to feed it, tend to its wounds, and give it lots of pets to show affection. All these acts of kindness will affect the little cub’s decision to stay at your camp, and it will start to grow a fondness towards you.
Once the owlbear is a full-fledged camp resident, you can summon it to your battles and even interact with it in your camp for special cutscenes. Remember to use a character with animal speaking abilities to know exactly what the cub is saying.
You also use the character Karlach to gain one Inspiration point through this pet interaction. Also, keep in mind that the Owlbear cub will run off scared due to Karlach’s enthusiastic affection during their first meeting. So, it might be best to make the first encounter character someone else.
