Taming a Ferox requires a bit of a different approach compared to taming an Astrocetus in ARK Survival Ascended. The process can be a bit difficult, and it will take quite some time before the creature gets completely tamed by your character to be then able to capture it. If you want this fuzzy furry creature under your control, here in this guide, I give you a step-by-step walkthrough to capture a Ferox in ARK Survival Ascended.
How to Capture the Ferox in ARK: Survival Ascended
Taming a Ferox requires you to find its spawning spot and then feed it Element. Once the Ferox consumes the Element, it will get bigger and start running around the area; here you just need to stay out of sight until the Ferox goes back to its original form. Repeat the process until you see 100% next to its name.

- Get to the spawn area for Ferox, one of the caves in the snow biome (Latitude 76.6/ Longtide 19.5) in the Genesis map. The biome is located southwest of the map; I’ve marked the spot on the image above to get you to the Ferox cave quickly.
- Head inside the cave or any spawning spot where you see Feroxes running around. Here, pick the one you want to tame and kill the rest so they will not interfere with the taming process. The cave will have Wolves, Bears, and other sorts of monsters, so come fully prepared to fend off a lot of wild animals to get our Ferox.
Note: You want to clear the cave of Bears and Wolves, or they will devour the Feroxes, leaving us few chances to catch them. The best way to do this is by luring them out of the cave and killing them before heading inside. The fun is not over yet; head inside the cave, and you will also find many bears roaming around. Kill them all, or they will become a nuisance during the Ferox’s taming process.
- After killing all the other animals, walk or swim up to Ferox. Once you get close, the Ferox will start chasing you. Feed the Ferox with an Element.
Element Locations
The game features many ways to get Elements; here we are going to take a look at a few:
- Defeating Bosses: The very best way to get your hands on an Element is by defeating bosses in the game. The difficulty of the boss fight will have an effect on the type of Element (Alpha/ Beta/ Gamma) you will get as a drop.
- Crafting: Another way to get an Element is by getting your hands on Element Shards and then turning the Element out of the shards. Element Shards can be obtained from Tek Parasaur or Tek Raptor, but you will have to gather a whopping 100 Element Shards to create a single Element.
- Buying: You also have the option to buy Element from HLN-A by spending 2,000 Hexagon.
I recommend having at least 20 to 30 Elements for the Ferox taming process. You will be feeding the Ferox constantly with Element to tame the creature completely; it will not happen instantly.
- After the Ferox consumes the Element, it will turn into a giant monster. Here, use the grappling hook to get to the roof of the cave or any place to stay out of Ferox’s line of sight. This will keep you safe from Ferox’s attack. You can also use the shield to guard yourself from the attacks. Ferox can’t climb the walls, so you will be safe at the top.
Note: Sometimes the Ferox will bug out and will not do anything at all. Don’t worry; it’s just a minor bug; just wait out the clock, and the Ferox will transform back to its original form. Once the Ferox gets bigger, it will start to attack all the other monsters in the cave.
- After a few seconds, the Ferox will return to its normal, tiny form. When you interact with the Ferox, you will see a percentage next to its name, as shown in the image above. The percentage here refers to the taming process; if the Ferox has the number 6%, then you will need to reach 94% to successfully tame the Ferox.
It’s going to be a long grind; bring enough Element and feed the Ferox, grapple hook to the ceiling or any wall until you repeat the same old step to successfully capture the animal. Once you have a Ferox of your own, you can breed and ride the animal. You won’t need any Saddle to ride the Ferox in ARK Survival Ascended; just get on its back, and you can start roaming the icy field of the snow biome at great speed.
