If you are familiar with Ubisoft’s first-person and third-person shooter games, you might recognize at least one of the five factions in XDefiant. These factions are groups from various other Ubisoft titles like Far Cry, Sprinter Cell, Ghost Recon, etc. But out of the five, one particular faction, the DedSec from Watch Dogs, is locked. Let’s find out how you can unlock DedSec in XDefiant.
How to Unlock and Play as DedSec in XDefiant
The DedSec Faction in XDefiant can be unlocked by purchasing it for 1,000 XCoins or for free by completing the Major Challenge, which requires you to earn a total of 700,000 XP. The free method can certainly take a while, but some level of grind is expected from a free-to-play title.
Luckily, if you have played in the XDefiant Beta and managed to gain 100,000 XP in it, you will have DedSec already unlocked and ready to play if you are on the same Ubisoft account as the one you used in the beta. Players have reported they still need to get the unlock despite playing in the beta, but don’t worry if this is happening for you, too, as it will eventually update once you restart the game.
Keep in mind that this beta reward only unlocks one of the three characters of DedSec. But since characters are only cosmetic changes, you will still get to use the DedSec faction’s abilities.

What Abilities does DedSec Faction have in XDefiant?
The DedSec faction is a group of elite hackers from the world of Watch Dogs; as such, they have hacking capabilities that can disrupt enemy forces, and they even get to use the iconic Spiderbot that was useable in the Watch Dog games.
Here is a list of all Activated and Ultra Abilities along with the Passive Trait of the DedSec Faction in XDefiant:
- Ultra:
- Lockout: Prevents enemies from using any Activated Ability and Ultra Ability if caught in its area of effect. Also disables enemy minimap.
- Activated Abilities:
- Hijack: Take control of any enemy-deployed active or ultra abilities on the field.
- Spiderbot: Send a Spiderbot that tracks the nearest enemy and hugs its face rendering them stunned for a short period.
- Passive Trait:
- Fabricator: Allows the player to regenerate devices (throwables) on a cooldown after using it.
DedSec is focused on enemy disruption and can be a fun playstyle, especially if you are trying to focus heavily on objectives. A perfectly timed Lockout Ultra near the objective can be the clutch factor in winning the game.
So, ultimately, DedSec in XDefiant plays as a middle ground between a support class and an aggressive attack class, depending on your chosen ability. If that sounds like a fun playstyle, this is surely the faction to unlock for you.
