The Pre-Season of XDefiant is set to launch soon, and there is a lot of hype surrounding it. It is said that XDefiant is directly competing with the likes of Call of Duty and features a similar style of arena shooter gameplay and mechanics. But since its competition is a full-priced paid title, is XDefiant free on all platforms? Let’s find out.
Will XDefiant be Free to Play?

Yes, XDefiant is a free-to-play game that you can download and start playing on its launch free of cost. However, it will feature a Battle Pass and other in-game purchases via its in-game store.
Still, you shouldn’t worry about it, as the Battle Pass and other purchasable items will only be cosmetic. The developers have gone on record to confirm that XDefiant will not feature any pay-to-win items that can give players an advantage in gameplay.
Also, the devs are highly dedicated to bringing players the fairest experience possible by having input-based matchmaking and no SBMM (Skill-based matchmaking). While the game has crossplay, players on any platform will only be matched with players on the same input type (Controller or Mouse & Keyboard).

Other things like Factions, weapons, and attachments will be unlockable just by playing the game. Only one of the factions from the five at launch, called DedSec, will be locked and will be available to purchase, but it will also be unlockable by reaching a certain player level.
So whether you are playing on PC, Xbox Series X/S, or the PS5, you will be able to download and start playing XDefiant for free on 21 May 2024. The pre-load for the game will also be available a few days before, on 16 May 2024.
