The Sanguinarix flask is an essential part of life in Lords of the Fallen if you intend to make it through the many horrors of Mournstead. This seemingly odd vessel has the ability to heal your player character while wandering and during boss fights.
Despite being the most useful item in the game, the flask isn’t generous enough with its effects when starting out and requires constant upgrading to keep up with the progressively difficult challenges that await you in Axiom and Umbral.
To alleviate this you can employ the use of a unique relic called the Saintly Quintessence. This relic has the ability to upgrade the Sanguinarix and as an added bonus, also increases your Radiance to gain further insight. As useful as this little relic is, unlocking it and acquiring it are challenges that will test your mettle early game.
There is no need for alarm though, as we have made this detailed walkthrough on how to find and use the Saintly Quintessence in Lords of the Fallen.

How To Unlock The Saintly Quintessence In Lords Of The Fallen

For a relic meant to upgrade a healing item, the game puts you through one of the most difficult tasks in Mournstead; a boss fight. Although the Sanguinarix is available right at character creation, the Saintly Quintessence is only unlocked after the first boss fight with Pieta, She of the Blessed Renewal.
Once Pieta has been uncorrupted, you can actually have a friendly conversation with her. She reveals quite a bit of the backstory of Mournstead and becomes a close ally. Pieta serves a similar purpose as the Fire Keeper in Dark Souls 3 or Sophia in Lies of P. She will allow you to upgrade stats and items provided you have the prerequisite items and upgrade points.
To upgrade the Sanguinarix, you’ll need a certain number of Saintly Quintessences. While it is just a single one to start with, that number increases substantially as you level up the flask. So, it is prudent that you hunt for all possible relics to make the most out of the Sanguinarix.
Where To Find Saintly Quintessence In Lords Of The Fallen
The Saintly Quintessences are confined to the Umbral Realm in Lords of the Fallen and can only be acquired by using Soul Flay. The relics are marked with a distinct yellowish-golden glow and are easy to spot. So far, these relics have been found extensively in Umbral Bellies.

Here’s a list of locations where you can acquire Saintly Quintessences in Lords of the Fallen:
Defiled Sepulchre
The relic here can be found during the tutorial level around the Withered Health part, next to the wall with myriad umbral bellies entrapped within.
Pilgrim’s Perch
After the boss fight with Scourged Sister Delyth, you can peer into the Umbral realm from the point where you first encountered her. There is an Umbral Belly in a small area within an arch made of several umbral bellies. You can find the second relic here.
Forsaken Fen
As you enter the docks of the Fen, keep to the right close to the hut and head to the passageway which leads to a moth lady. Defeat the moth lady and acquire the third Saintly Quintessence by Soul Flaying the umbral belly stuck to the rock.
Fitzroy’s Gorge
As you reveal the umbral realm near the solitary tree atop the hill with the flame warrior, you can find a relic on an Umbral Belly stuck to the tree. The area is guarded by a Mendacious Visage, an optional boss who could prove troublesome if you decide to take it head-on.
Lower Calrath
At the Calrath slums, you can find a tower next to an Infernal Enchantress. Head up the topmost part of the ruined tower which is also partially engulfed in flames to find the Saintly Quintessence on an Umbral Belly stuck to a partly destroyed wall.
Upper Calrath
After defeating the Spurned Progeny, head to the Vestige of Doln and through to its left. The path will take you directly to a fortified courtyard with several enemies. You can peer into the Umbral realm here to find an Umbral Belly near a wall.
Fief of the Chill Curse
There are two Saintly Quintessences in the Fief region. The first can be found near a platform at the castle after the Griefbound Rowena boss fight. You’ll have to use Soul Flay to reach the Umbral Belly with the relic and pull it out.
The second Saintly quintessence at the Fief can be found to the left of the fifth beacon. There is a large ruined area with a staircase leading up to a sacrificial symbol of sorts. You can find the second relic of Fief in the Umbral Belly at the sacrificial symbol.
Path of Devotion
After passing the Vestige of Dieter after the Bellrise boss room, head to Path of Devotion which is by the hill. If you open the Umbral region here, you can find a platform floating independently. Jump onto the platform to Soul Flay the Saintly Quintessence here. Beware of the many enemies on the platform though, they will attack on sight.
Tower of Penance
As you make your way to the lowest part of the tower, you can find a few ladders leading to an enclosure with a few Umbral eggs and a moth lady guarding them. Vanquish the foe and head to the end of the section to pull out the relic.
Manse of the Hallowed Brother
As you explore the expansive Manse, you’ll find a stone courtyard past the abbey where you find Abbot Vernoff’s Key. In the courtyard, you can find a statue. Access Umbral from this area and you can find the umbral belly with a saintly quintessence.
Abbey of Hallowed Sisters
After you have defeated the Rapturous Huntress, head to the left past the statues. Find your way outside to the area where a scourged sister is waiting past a few stairs. You can go past a gate and access Umbral to find an Umbral Belly in the area with a Saintly Quintessence.
Empyrean Saintly Quintessence
After crossing the Abbey of the Hallowed Sisters and the Manse of the Hallowed Brothers, you’ll come across the derelict castle Empyrean. This is where you’ll encounter the Judge Cleric boss. At the second level of the building, you can find a few abiding defenders past the bridge. As you pass through the left of this area, you can find an Umbral Belly with a Saintly Quintessence to Soul Flay.
Revelation Depths
Past the Vestige of Katrin, you can find an area with some ladders and platforms. There is a solitary platform past the area with the Enervated Vigor Skull. This platform can be Soul Flayed to access and contains several enemies including a Mendacious Visage. The Umbral Belly with the Saintly Quintessence can be found at the far end of the platform.
Bramis Castle
The maze-like castle features three Saintly Quintessences. The first can be found within the inner section of Bramis Castle after the Damarose boss fight. The second Saintly Quintessence can be found in the library area of the castle where you find the Royal Key. The third Saintly Quintessence in Bramis Castle can be found in the dining hall area.
