Customer interaction is one of the many perks that come when you open a store in any neighborhood. The sad truth is not all customers act the same; some will have demands for specific items, while some will be on the wanted list by the cops. In Probably Stolen, when you’re running a business, you have to look at these issues with the sole motive of future profit. John Smith shows up in the game probably during Day 39 or 45; unfortunately, the man is on the most wanted list.
Now the decision-making lands on your head; you will have to decide whether to report him to security or let him walk free in Probably Stolen. Both options feature their own intricate path with slight alterations to the storyline for John Smith, but it’s up to you whether to do the right thing or keep him around for your store’s success.
Option 1: Reporting John Smith

John Smith will make three separate visits after you report him to the cops. You will make three reports on John Smith to the cops; each report earns you +125 Credits (x3 times = 375 Credits) for the entire John Smith arrest scenario.
First Visit
When John Smith makes his first appearance, check the Wanted poster, and you will find him at the bottom of the list with the bounty of 125 Credits. Since we are on the path to arresting him, press the button to “Call Security for assistance“; it’s the sky-blue colored button on the desk. The security will show up and arrest John Smith, rewarding you 125 Credits to your account. You will gain a boost to your Reputation with Security.
Second Visit
That’s not the end of John Smith; he will show up 2 days later asking for food, again you must press the same sky-blue button to call in the security to arrest him. If you do, you will again make the same amount of credits, 125 credits, with an improvement in security reputation, just like the first time.
Note: You also get the option to Let Him Go the second time. Calling the security on him for the second time gets him riled up for the third appearance.
Third Visit
Before the visit, you will get the message: “Your store was vandalized overnight. “JOHN SMITH” is spray-painted across the front in huge letters.” You don’t have to guess at the culprit, as John Smith will let you know all about his artistry.
John Smith will again make an appearance the third time, right after vandalizing the store and spray-painting his name on the wall. Within 2 days after the second visit, John Smith will make his third appearance. The third arrival will not be about food, but it’s largely about making you aware of the paint job, and he will then leave the store.
You can call in security before he leaves the store to get the final 125 Credits and improve Security Reputation. Cleaning up the paint job will cost 75 Credits, so out of 375 credits you made via John Smith arrest, you will leave with 300 credits with good security reputations.
Note: The third visit is not about food; it is about making you know the mastermind behind the paint job. If you don’t press the arrest button or sky-blue button on the desk quickly, he will leave the premises. Make sure to press the arrest button before John Smith leaves the scene.
Option 2: Let Him Go

As long as you don’t report him, he will keep coming back for food. The one thing that will change substantially is the budget for the food every week. During his later visits, he will spend around 125 to 175 credits. In short, he becomes a regular customer once you provide him with a suitable food item.

Should You Let John Smith Go or Have Him Arrested?
I will recommend choosing to let him go, as John Smith is highly regarded as a consistent food buyer for the store. You will want him as a steady buyer who is becoming a regular for the store. Releasing him helps with short-term profit that will not last long; the better option would be to keep him for future profits.
John Smith will claim the entire thing about him being on the Most Wanted list is a giant mistake on the security side. He will put the blame on sharing the same name as a robber. The whole story is made up, since turning him in to security is considered a valid arrest. If you think he is innocent, then you can let him go, but if you are on the other side of the argument, sending him to security is the right thing to do.
