Like most RPG games, Echoes of Ancraid has its fair share of enemy encounters during exploration. That is why it is important to keep your character’s stats up, and obtaining rare gear with valuable stats is the way to go. Some gear and weapons in the game are free, but you need to complete the related quests to get them.
The Earthly Jacket is a great early game equipment to keep for its extra defense stats and is especially useful in boss fights. I highly recommend that you pick this up as quickly as you can. Here is how to go about doing that in Echoes of Ancraid
Taming the Wilderness Quest Guide in Echoes of Ancraid
You unlock the Earthly Jacket crafting recipe on defeating the Snowcap Boar. Progress through the main story until you reach the city of Horunka. After completing the main quest Beaten to the Punch, a new quest marker will lead you to the Farmer’s Wife. Speaking to her will start the Secret Medicine of the Forest quest.
Following the questline will lead you to a location that will start the Taming the Wilderness side quest. Head over to the marked location above near Doltir Road and interact with the shield trinket lying on the floor beside a makeshift bed. Complete the rest of the Secret Medicine of the Forest quest and return to the city.
Find the Guard at Town of Beginnings
Head over to the Town of Beginnings and look around for a guard with a question mark over his head. He will tell you that he needs some help taking down some of the monsters in Boar’s Knoll. Track the quest from the Main Terminal and follow the marker on your map. This will lead you to the Snowcap Boar boss fight arena.
The fight itself is pretty simple, as this is just a level 15 boss. It will use its body and head to slam and headbutt you, which can be dodged if you notice it early. The only thing to look out for is its freeze attacks, and you will notice them if the tusks start to glow. I recommend bringing plenty of healing items before stepping into the boss fight. Use Combination Skills and regular Heavy Attacks to bring it down.
Crafting the Earthly Jacket
Once defeated, return to the guard and you will get the Earthly Jacket blueprint, as well as Exp x100 and Heat Essence x3. Visit any Smithy across the map to craft it, but first, you need the following materials:
- 1000x Col
- 1x Silver Ingot
- 3x Hexstone
- 2x Magestone
Hexstones have a higher chance of dropping from Elite Kobolds that spawn around Citadel Highlands: Great Bridge or Citadel Highlands: Western Stronghold. If you don’t have access to these areas, completing the quest Leone Trading Company will unlock these places.
Silver Ingots are dropped from a variety of enemies, but you will get one while defeating the Withering Nepenthes during the Secret Medicine of the Forest quest. Magestone is the final item required, and it too is a random drop from Normal Kobold enemies.
Earthly Jacket Stats
The Earthly Jacket is a great, early game jacket that applies high defense when worn. You will also get a unique Mod that will further increase your defense and reduce the damage taken, and is of great help when trying to get an extra healing crystal slot early on in the game.

- MOD: Fearless – Increases defense when in the vicinity of enemies or bosses, and reduces the damage taken from them.
