Whenever you’re getting hunted in Shift At Midnight, you’re warned before the encounter. Since you’re left with limited time, you have to think fast and prepare accordingly. I believe traps are the best way to deal with attacks, but you need to place them while predicting the enemy.
Additionally, you have to place them in such a way that the traps end up hurting your enemies and not you. If you’re having trouble dealing with supernatural foes, I’ve written this guide with careful information to make the preparation easier for you.
Trap Setup Strategy for Shift at Midnight
First off, traps can be acquired by using the computer at the checkout desk. So make sure to buy anything that could prove to be useful in the Shop section. The catalogue is randomized each day, so it’s best to stock up on supplies each day. Here’s every trap you can find in the game currently, and how to use them:

In the initial three to four encounters, it’s best to rely solely on bear traps as they are cost-effective, and there aren’t many threats to deal with. Additionally, place them only when the hunt is about to begin instead of at the start of a new day. This strategy allowed me to be more effective with less wastage.
As you move into the fifth day, it’s best to add some variety of traps while keeping the numbers as low as three to four. The time you would need more traps is beyond the eighth or ninth day. Also, crowd control is mandatory at this point, which means you should keep a Stun Mine handy.
Combining traps, you’d also have to rely on weapons, so make sure of that. I’ve found a pistol helpful during the initial few days, but beyond that it’s best to keep a shotgun around. Moreover, don’t make the mistake of only setting up traps inside the store. You can even set up traps outside and use them to your advantage.
