Can You Acquire & Pilot Starborn Ships in Starfield?

The Starborn ships in Starfield have a unique design with a futuristic look that is different than any other ship in the game. These ships are piloted by the Starborn, a special group of people that claim to have surpassed humanity itself and are being born anew. At first glance, you might assume you can take over their Starborn ships like you do with any other but it is not as easy as it seems.

In this guide below, we will explain all the requirements you need to be able to take over and pilot these unique Starborn ships for yourself.

How to Get Access to Starborn Ships in Starfield

The only way to get a Starborn ship for yourself is by completing the game and starting a New Game plus (NG+) playthrough. This means you will have to complete the final quest ‘Revelation’ and defeat the final boss. Doing so will now unlock the NG+ mode to be selected when you start a new playthrough.

Unfortunately, there is no way of obtaining the Starborn ships in your first playthrough. Even after completing the final mission, you won’t be able to pilot them in that playthrough itself.

You may find them landing on a planet that you are on or even see them in space, usually after the main mission ‘All That Money Can Buy’ after you build the Armillary. The Armillary attracts other Starborn ships to come and attack you. However, even if you disable their engines in space or try to board one on a planet’s surface, you will find that boarding it is not possible.

Starfield brings incredible visuals to a sprawling narrative.

Starborn Ship Base Stats

When compared to regular ships in Starfield, Starborn ships are way more powerful with one of the highest capacity of fuel, and it also comes with unique weapons like the Solar Flare Beam and the Gravity Torpedo. It also can go incredibly fast up to 700 units per second and also comes with a clocking ability that can help you lose a missle lock-on from enemies in space.

Here are the stats of the base Starborn Guardian ship that you get in your first NG+ Playthrough. You can, however, get better versions with slightly increased stats which we will explain more later in this article.

Stats

  • Class: A
  • Reactor: 22 Power
  • Cargo: 950 Units
  • Crew Size: 5
  • Jump Drive: 30 LY

Weapons

  • Solar Flare Beam: 60 DPS / 3 Power
  • Gravity Torpedo: 70 DPS / 3 Power

How to Get the Starborn Ship in Starfield’s New Game Plus

When you start your new game plus playthrough, you will wake up in your very own Starborn Guardian ship. You won’t need to actually go around in a weaker ship and find Starborn ships to board. With this alien-looking ship, you will now be quite powerful at the start of the game itself.

So in short, you won’t need to do anything special to get the ship. Instead, you will start with a Starborn Ship as your default spacecraft in NG+.

Can You Customize the Starborn Ship?

You cannot customize or modify the Starborn ship in any way in its appearance like changing the color and its parts. Since it is a custom and unique ship, none of the normal human vendors on any planet will have any parts for this ship.

However, the Starborn ship that you get will have only two weapons but these should be more than enough when it comes to raw damage output. It also comes with a cloaking device that you can use to make your enemies lose their missile lock-on. You cannot change the weapons and customize them to your liking.

Can You Upgrade the Starborn Ship?

Since you cannot customize or change the weapons on the ship, there is no real way to upgrade the ship you get in your current playthrough. However, you can get the Starborn Guardian II ship and so on up to Starborn Guardian VI by completing an NG+ playthrough and starting another NG+ playthrough.

With each playthrough, you will get an increasingly better Starborn Guardian ship and this is pretty much the only way to upgrade and get the Starborn Guardian VI which is the last and most powerful of them all.

That is all you need to know on how to get the Starfield Starborn ships. If you are looking for a good ship without having to go to NG+, you might want to check out our guide on custom Starfield ship building and make an awesome ship for yourself.
