The Blood of Dawnwalker features countless quests with a variety of choices that significantly change the storyline and the rewards of the quest. One such decision-making moment happens earlier when you are about to create a potion to treat Coen’s mother. The game has added consequences to each side; if you create the potion with all the right ingredients, it will lead to one outcome, and messing up will lead to a different one.
Here I will be helping you to pick the right ingredients to create the medicine to treat Coen’s Mother and slightly touch up on the consequences by keeping the spoilers to a minimum.
How Many Herbs To Save Coen’s Mother
You must mix up hot water with three spoonfuls of herbs to create the perfect medicine for Coen’s mother, Esme, in the Blood of Dawnwalker.
After you acquire the herbs from Anca in the Withering Away quest, the objective will change to bring the herbs back to Pieter and read the recipe from Anca. This quest will easily consume two to three segments in the time bar, so make sure to have enough before continuing with this questline.
You will find Anca in the southeast part of Laslea Glen by the river; you must pay 50 Denarius to buy the ingredients from her. After buying the items from her, we can treat the mother by brewing the perfect potion.
Note: Before you leave Anca’s hut, you will come across a major choice. If you choose “Gladly, I’ve missed it too“, this will lead to a special quest “Page Turner” involving Anca (Consume 2 Time Segments). If you have no interest in Anca, then choose “I really have to go” (Consume 1 Time Segment).
Recipe: “Brew three scoops with water that’s hot, but not quite boiling. Give to Esme before mass, then twice daily.”
So we have three details from the worded recipe:
- #1| The water is supposed to be hot but not boiling
- #2| Three scoops of herb
Lastly, it’s about giving it to Esme before mass, then following it on a twice-daily basis, irrelevant to the potion recipe.
First Choice:
The first option is about picking the correct water, whether hot, cold, or boiled. There could be some confusion between Boiled and Hot, which could lead to the same thing, but in reality both of them are different in-game.

Choose – Use Hot Water as the first option.
Second Choice:
Now it’s about picking the right amount of herbs and adding them to the water.
- Add one spoonful of herbs
- Add two spoonfuls of herbs

Cosenqeuces
The quest will end with two drastically different scenarios based on how you handled the objective during the quest. Whether you decided to help Esme by giving her the potion or messed up the potion and neglected her quest.
- Ending #1: If you gave Esme the right potion by following the instructions provided by Anca, then you will see Coen’s mother doing well during the mass, but she will stay weak but alive.
- Ending #2: Messing up the brewing potion recipe or neglecting the objective will lead to Coen’s mother causing a fuss during the mass. I will keep the spoilers minimal, but it will lead to a gruesome ending later on. Esme will not survive this ending.
