The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake still keeps the classic 3 Deku Scrubs puzzle you find right before Queen Gohma inside the Great Deku Tree. Fortunately, for fans of the original title, the solution remains the same. Needless to say, this puzzle has confused countless players.
After you hit the Dekus in the right sequence, a door will open to the boss. The Dekus will also tell you how to handle the fight. In this guide, I’ll show you the correct sequence of hitting the Deku Scrubs so you don’t stand confused in front of them.

The correct order for the 3 Deku Scrubs Puzzle in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake goes like this: middle, right, and then left.
In this sequence, Link has to bounce their Deku Nuts back at them with his shield. The first two will stay stuck on the ground once you hit them. But the left one will run across the room. Here, you will have to catch the Deku Scrub and hit it before it dives back into its hole. This is the part of the puzzle that can make you feel confused.
Once this Scrub goes back to its hole, the entire puzzle resets. Hence, I recommend acting quickly on the last Deku Scrub.
How to Clear the Room
Once you drop through the final web and land in the water, you have to swim to the shore. Here you will find the 3 Deku Scrubs lined up in front of a locked door.
Here’s how to clear them in order:
Lock on to the middle one, and hold your shield up. This will let you bounce its nut back. The Scrub will then freeze in its place.
Repeat the same process on the one on the right. It will freeze as well.
Hit the one on the left. Once you see it popping out and running across the room, it’s a race against time. Chase it and hit it with your sword so it doesn’t reach its hole.
If you mess up the sequence, or fail to stop the last Deku Scrub from reaching its hole, then the entire puzzle will reset, and you will have to start again. That said, there is no real penalty here aside from the reset itself.
If you are successful in keeping the last Deku Scrub down, the door behind them will open, and one of the Scrubs will give you a short tip about Gohma’s eye.
Getting the Hint for the Puzzle
You can get the hint for the Puzzle a little earlier inside the same dungeon. After you burn the web, go through the door where you can find a single Deku Scrub. Raise your shield and lock on to the Scrub, then bounce its nut back to him.
After he is stunned, you can walk up to him and talk. You will see it telling the order: 2,3,1. The middle Scrub is 2, the right one is 3, and the left is 1.
You can write it down before beginning the puzzle, or just remember the sequence by middle-left-right. For me, the latter was very helpful.
