Duke Stelmane was a member of The Council of Four and stayed that way until a year before the events of Baldur’s Gate 3 unfold. She had quite a reputation among her faction, the Knights of the Shield. Although you as a player cannot directly interact with her in the game, she has an active role in the story and has quite a tragic character arc.

Duke Belynne Stelmane’s Backstory In Baldur’s Gate 3
Regarded as a strong politician, Duke Belynne had a sound mind for business and finance. However, in the year 1479 DR, she suffered a stroke from a mind flayer who was later revealed to be The Emperor who tried to make her its thrall. Due to this, she suffered a stroke which left half of her body paralyzed. She was in a coma for several days and struggled majorly to maintain control of her own body during the later stages of her life.

This injury also caused her to have many physical ailments and a speech impediment throughout the rest of her life. In the year 1492 DR, she was murdered by Bhaalists, who are followers of the God of Murder, Bhaal. She was in her suite in the Elfsong Tavern in the Lower City where Act 3 of the game also takes place. The cultists also cut off her hand to spread fear amongst the people of the city.
