Published by Annapurna Interactive, Cocoon tells the story of a little beetle trying to uncover the hidden mysteries of different worlds controlled by alien technology. Your job is to assist the beetle and solve puzzles along his journey.
But, throughout your venture, you will often find secret pathways leading to interactable areas of the map. The Moon Ancestors can be found in those hidden paths and I can help guide you through the whole thing.

All Cocoon Moon Ancestor Locations
Moon Ancestors are collectibles that can unlock achievements in the game once collected. There are a total of 11 moon ancestors for you to collect in Cocoon, and for your ease, I am also including the load point (percentage) to quickly get to them.
Off The Beaten Path – 14%
You can either grab the ball to be lifted up the mountain or drop down from the boss arena to get to this moon ancestor. It will be on the path to the left from the starting area and considered as checkpoint 9 in the game.
Mariner’s Branch – 24%
Load up 24% of Cocoon and take a left from the invisible bridge once the barrier is lowered. Then make your way to the left staircase and interact with the symbol to release your second moon ancestor.
Mesh Network – 27%
Use your helping robot to turn the invisible bridge so that it connects the West and the South. Then you can simply take the bridge and head all the way to the right to a forest. There will be a pedestal amidst trees, where this moon ancestor resides.

End of the Line – 33%
Loading into 33% of the game and starting at Checkpoint 21 you will once again find the phase block puzzle you have probably encountered previously. This time you will use your orb to turn your pathways transparent.
To do that, simply start from the block you first loaded in on and get to the top of the ledge. Then use it twice to descend the stairs and walk down to the right to find another moon ancestor.
Skin Deep – 46%
After you are off the hoverbike, go to the right to use your orange orb in that section. You will come across a large area with black goo which leads to a bridge made of bones directly to the south. Head further south till you can find the robot that can carry your orb.
Take the robot to the open area with the black goo and lead it to stand on top of a pressure-plate-like button before taking the orb and standing on the other button yourself. This will trigger a bridge to open up and lead you to this area’s Moon Ancestor.
Different Destinations – 54%
Right before the Boss fight in this area, head to the rightmost part of the tall structure and find the archway made of spheres blocking your path. From the archway, head further right to find the Moon Ancestor ready to be collected.
Conduit – 63%
At the 63% mark, you will have all your colorful orbs at hand and take on their challenges in the game. Instead of wasting time trying out all the orbs, take your orange orb and head down into a pipe once you are in the orange-tinted area.
Take the path down and to the left till you can find the black goop. From this area, you have to find the platform to place your orange orb which makes a staircase up to the Moon Ancestor. Once you have the achievement, we can go ahead and hop on over to the next loading point.

Cryptographer – 81%
Following the shadow beast to this area of Cocoon, you will find a platform and a pedestal to work out some kind of mechanism leading you to this moon ancestor. Place the green orb on the warp platform and the white on the pedestal till you see the white orb shooting at the green.
Transporting inside the green orb you will find the white orb shots activate a crystal which triggers a platform, helping you cross. Go out of the green world, change the white orb direction to the left, and continue with the whole thing once again.
Once you are at the third area, go out of the green once again and this time, take the white orb with you inside. Then pass through the small opening between two giant rocks to find a walkway. Go to the right to reveal another puzzle.
For this sequence puzzle, shoot your white orb to the crystals in the following pattern:
- Up->Down->Left-> Right
After the correct sequence is done, a bridge will form connecting the Moon Ancestor to your platform.
The Space Between the Stars – 84%
During this part, you will need to re-enter the orange orb world once you have the green orb in your hand. You can control some phase-shifting blocks that lead up to the platform containing the Moon Ancestor.
A Perspective on Things – 86%
Around 86% of the way into the game, you will find a crack in the cave-like path near checkpoint 54 where you first loaded in. This crack opens up to be a pathway when you have placed the white orb and transported it into it.
Follow the open path to find this moon ancestor and release it to continue your next adventure.
Loophole Maneuvers – 97%
After you have managed to get the Drone past the first area, search the area to find a funnel-like structure on a platform. You need to place your green orb in the funnel and then head back to the transporter to warp inside the green orb.
You need to find and press the button to release the Moon Ancestor inside the green orb.
There you have it, all the moon ancestor locations in Cocoon. Although I wish these collectibles had more hidden features attached, unfortunately, these moon ancestors serve no purpose other than just being the shiny trophies for your collection.
