The Day Before is a zombie survival game inspired by MMOs and extraction shooters. In typical MMO fashion, you will have to choose your character class when first starting the game. There are three different classes to choose from – Roamer, Pathfinder, and Ghost, each with its own look and special traits that make them unique in their own way. Let’s have a look at all of these three classes in The Day Before in detail so you can decide which one is the right one for you.
Best Class to Pick in the Day Before
We’d say that the Ghost Class is the best one to start with in The Day Before. We think this because stamina is crucial in the game and it starts with an improved stamina skill. You also need to remember that dying is pretty easy in this game, so the injury resistance really helps. Overall, it just feels like a really good class to start with.
For those of you who want an in-depth look at the classes so you can chose yourself, look below for each of them.
The Roamer Class
Before the apocalypse, the Roamer had a rough life trying to survive, giving them good survival skills. So this is for the players who want to survive in the face of all odds and still come out on top.
Here are the traits of the Roamer class in The Day Before:
Enduring | The Weight Capacity Skill is increased by one level. |
Perceptive | The Looting skill is increased by one level. |
Hardened | The Automatic Rifle Recoil Control skill is increased by one level. |
The initial increase in weight capacity with the Enduring trait in the early game is a blessing, as getting items back to Woodberry from New Fortune City is most of what you will be doing.

The Looting skill increase with the Perceptive trait also goes hand in hand as this means you will spend less time trying to search lootable places. It is easy to die while trying to open some of the loot containers as it takes quite a while without the increase in Looting Skill.
You also get an assault rifle early in the game, which goes well with Roamer’s Hardened trait by making you more accurate with it.
The Pathfinder Class
The Pathfinder had a typical office working job before the apocalypse. Known for their intelligence and leadership, they possess a dark side too, being brutally cold-blooded, which helps when you are in a city infested with zombies.
Here are the traits of the Pathfinder class in The Day Before:
Charismatic | The Trading skill is increased by one level. |
Resourceful | The Healing skill is increased by one level. |
Cold-blooded | The Sniper Rifle Reload Speed skill is increased by one level. |
The increase in Trading skill with the Charismatic trait allows the Pathfinder to get items at a discounted price compared to everybody else. This is exceptional for the early game but also only gets better as you progress.
One of the most powerful traits that lets the Pathfinder heal faster in combat situations is Resourceful, as it makes you start with an increased Healing skill which makes you heal faster in combat situations. For the mid to late-game prowess, Pathfinder also has Cold-Blooded, which can be very helpful as Sniper Rifles have a terribly slow reload speed by default.

The Ghost Class
The Ghost is shrouded in mystery as no one knows what their story was before the apocalypse. Ghost combines toughness, ruthlessness, and a deep-seated sense of justice and kindness. Skeptical of authority, the Ghost always acts in their own accordance.
Here are the traits of the Ghost class in The Day Before:
Resilient | The Stamina skill is increased by one level. |
Tenacious | The Injury Resistance skill is increased by one level. |
Trained | The Automatic Rifle Reload Speed skill is increased by one level. |
Getting to your objective in Fortune City can be a long walk sometimes which is where the Resilient trait helps a lot by increasing your overall Stamina bar.
Tenacious trait helps the Ghost avoid injuries from bites, scratches, or even gunshots. Once you start bleeding, survival can be difficult without proper healing items, so it’s better not to get injured in the first place.
The Trained trait works well in early game and throughout the game since you will use assault rifles often. Having a faster reload speed than your enemies can be the winning factor in PvP encounters.
Hope this helps you decide which class you should pick in The Day Before. If you are doing some early-game tasks, you might also be interested in reading how to complete the Radio Contact task in The Day Before.
