For Xbox Games Showcase 2023, Microsoft promised “in-game and in-engine footage” for all of their upcoming games coming to Xbox and PC. Sticking to the promise, they showed us a plethora of new titles while giving us a deeper look at earlier announced ones. Starfield certainly stole the spotlight, but with a multitude of other exciting upcoming releases, Xbox gave gamers plenty of reasons to cheer about.
Here is a list of games from Xbox Games Showcase 2023 that we think you would be excited about.
Starfield
We received a lot of fresh information on Starfield. The game’s vast universe was first teased in a magnificent new trailer that also included some gameplay footage. The development team then delved into a lot more detail over the 45-minute Starfield Direct. This covered key topics like character creation, ship customization and flight, companions, and more. The game will be released on September 6.
Fable
The newest game in the Fable franchise has finally received a highlight from Microsoft. Fans of the series who enjoy its absurdity should be relieved by the trailer’s quirky nature. We looked at some of the gameplay features, showcasing a hero fighting to protect a group from an approaching behemoth. However, there was no mention of a release date in the trailer.
Star Wars: Outlaws
Star Wars: Outlaws entered the Star Wars universe as a new title by Ubisoft. Even though the main character in the teaser didn’t appear to be a Jedi, they managed to control a spacecraft and a gun. There’s no lightsaber here, so that adds danger to the excitement. Ubisoft will show off gameplay on Monday during its Ubisoft Forward event. It is scheduled to release in 2024.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty
Phantom Liberty, Cyberpunk 2077’s narrative expansion, is coming out on September 26. The trailer showcased Idris Elba’s debut, and Keanu Reeves’ comeback as Johnny Silverhand . Players will visit a yet unexplored part of Night City as part of the new expansion.
Avowed
Obsidian’s Avowed made a return after three years of its initial reveal. This time, it’s a gameplay trailer where they showcased what the world of the new RPG had to offer—caverns, spiders, casting spells, sword fighting, and many other fantastical features. The game is slated for a 2024 launch.
South of Midnight
South of Midnight is a new game by Compulsion Games, the creator of We Happy Few. From the trailer, we can see the main Hazel’s search for a monster with fangs-like blades. All of it with a backdrop of a mystery figure playing guitar alongside a river. According to the devs, it will fuse magic realism with authentic elements from the American South.
Forza Motorsport
Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport comes a long six years after Forza Motorsport 7. However, you don’t have to wait long as Microsoft revealed the release date for the title to be October 10. A new teaser debuted the stunning next-gen graphics, which serves as a testament to the power of Xbox series X.
Clockwork Revolution
Clockwork Revolution is a new title by inXile, makers of the Wasteland series. With a steampunk motif and first-person shooter gameplay, there were indications of time-bending mechanisms in this new game. There are also a bunch of Bioshock influences which have spawned a lively conversation among fans. Clockwork Revolution doesn’t have a release window just yet.
Metaphor: Re Fantazio
Metaphor Re Fantazio is a new game from the makers of Persona 3, 4, and 5. The game has a lot of Persona’s flair while having a completely different setting. The game arrives in 2024.
33 Immortals
33 Immortals is a new title by the studio behind Spritfarer, Thunder Lotus. It’s a brand-new action game with a focus on raids. The stunning hand-drawn artstyle of Spritfarer is carried forward in this top-down action game, which can accommodate up to 33 players simultaneously.
Payday 3
We received a fresh peek at Payday 3 gameplay, complete with all the expected bank heist shenanigans. We witnessed a vehicle pursuit, gunfights on rooftops, and several devices and equipment to aid you and your heist mates. The game is scheduled to launch on September 21, and will be available day one on Game Pass.
Persona 3 Reload
Persona 3 Reload will be coming out in early 2024. After several leaks and anticipation, we’ve finally received official gameplay footage. The footage seems to bring Persona 3 up to par with Persona 5 regarding gameplay and visuals.
Persona 5 Tactica
Persona 5 Tactica, a different game that Atlus unintentionally revealed early, made its way to the Xbox Games Showcase. The game has a fresh chibi visual style and a Fire Emblem-like tactical spin on the Persona 5 universe. The game will launch on November 17, and it will be available day one on Game Pass.
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth
The sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon has been made public. Ichiban is depicted as washing ashore on the coast of Hawaii in the video game Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth. 100% bare. Early next year, the game will be available on Xbox and Windows.
Path of the Goddess
Path of the Goddess was a lovely addition to the Showcase. It’s an action-oriented game with horror themes and vibrant visuals and is the next upcoming ‘mythical’ game by Capcom.
Towerborne
Towerborne has a fresh take on an ever-evolving world with a focus on co-op gameplay. The new co-op world is developed by the team behind the Banner Saga trilogy. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass some time in 2024, and it includes a more vibrant and colorful universe than Banner Saga.
Cities Skylines 2
A sequel to the fantastic city-building simulator is upon us. Releasing on October 24 this year, the game features new horizons to what its predecessor was capable of. We hope to see new additions and upgrades to the city planning toolkit.
Jusant
Dontnod is bringing us Jusant, a climbing experience with a twist or two. It’s an ascending action-puzzle game with calming tones, coming this fall.
Dungeons of Hinterberg
Dungeons of Hinterberg was a stunning addition to Xbox Games Showcase. The game combines a gorgeous world with cel-shaded painting elements. We looked at exploration, fierce fighting, cities, meadows, and various other locations. The game is slated to come out in early 2024.
Still Wakes the Deep
In a brief teaser clip, Still Wakes the Deep described visiting an abandoned oil rig. Its expected release is in early 2024.
You play as an employee of an offshore oil rig battling for your life while navigating a dangerous environment. Find your crew and, if you can, assist them in surviving. Run, climb, and swim through the flooded hallways and storm-damaged exterior decks. You’ll have to defeat a scary, unyielding foe to add to the horror.
Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
The newest installment of Flight Simulator brings several upgrades and enhancements to the original game. Additionally, on November 3, a Dune crossover will add the famous vehicle to the current version of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2
Hellblade 2 builds on its predecessor’s dark and gripping theme. The saga continues on PC and Xbox Series X|S, and will be available sometime in 2019. A brand-new sequel trailer showcases the stunning next-gen graphics.
