In response to the recent leak suggesting that Baldur’s Gate 3 would be released on Xbox Series X and S on December 6, Michael Douse, the Director of Publishing at Larian Studios simply said, “News to me.”
Douse further clarified that Larian Studios does not have a confirmed Xbox release date for Baldur’s Gate 3 at the moment. The date will only be determined once the development team is confident in the game’s readiness. Douse reiterated the studio’s aim to bring Baldur’s Gate 3 to Xbox by the end of 2023.
“The key takeaway here should be that we want a really good version that Xbox fans deserve. This means we’ll work on it until we’re happy to release it.”

Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke recently assured fans that Baldur’s Gate 3 for Xbox Series X/S is on track for a release this year. He mentioned that active playtesting is underway. Earlier this year, he confirmed seamless cross-save progression between Steam and Xbox Series consoles.
Why Baldur’s Gate 3 Xbox Launch Was Delayed
The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox Series X/S didn’t coincide with the PS5 version due to the development on implementing split-screen co-op for both Xbox consoles. However, to expedite the game’s arrival on Xbox, the development team temporarily set aside the plan to introduce split-screen co-op on the Series S.
Larian Studios has consistently conveyed its aim to have Baldur’s Gate 3 available on Xbox Series X/S before the end of 2023. This caution is justified given Baldur’s Gate 3’s esteemed status as one of the best video games, and a rushed or subpar port could risk disappointing fans and harming the game’s reputation.
