DayZ 2 is in development, according to a document that emerged as part of Microsoft and the Federal Trade Commission’s ongoing legal battle. The document, which listed potential acquisitions for Microsoft, included Bohemia Interactive and mentioned their work on Arma Reforged, Arma 4, and the eagerly awaited DayZ 2.
While the Arma series and DayZ have been pivotal franchises for Bohemia Interactive, the existence of DayZ 2 was not previously announced by the studio. However, this document suggests that the sequel is actively being developed. However, Bohemia Interactive has not yet provided an official statement regarding this revelation.
DayZ 2 will build upon its predecessor which was a pioneer of survival games
DayZ has its root back in a 2012 survival-focused mod of the same name, which was made for Arma 2. Following the wild success of the mod, Bohemia collaborated with Dean Hall, the author of the mod, to develop a standalone game titled DayZ. It released through Steam’s early access program in 2013. After five years of periodic updates, the official full release came in 2018 for PC, and in 2019 for consoles.

The document from Microsoft’s legal battle also shed light on other notable projects in the works at Bohemia Interactive. Arma Reforger, which currently serves as a trial-and-error platform for the upcoming Arma 4, is already available on PC and Xbox. While Arma 4 was confirmed by the studio last year, no official logo or teaser has been shared as of yet.
With DayZ 2 now confirmed to be in development, fans are eagerly awaiting official updates from Bohemia Interactive. While it is unclear how long it will take for the sequel to be released, considering the success and longevity of the original DayZ, the studio is likely to take their time to deliver a polished immersive experience for players.
Impressive Game Pass performance of DayZ
In addition to unveiling the future projects of Bohemia Interactive, the document also revealed impressive statistics about DayZ’s performance on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. Over the past six months, players have collectively spent nearly 19 million hours playing DayZ on Xbox Game Pass, excluding PC Game Pass. Furthermore, the game reached a peak concurrent player count of over 34,000 on Steam last month, approaching its all-time high of over 43,000 players.
A promising future for fans of survival games
The confirmation of DayZ 2’s development marks an exciting milestone for fans of the survival game genre. As Bohemia Interactive continues to work on Arma 4 and Arma Reforger, the anticipation for DayZ 2 grows. While specific details about the sequel are yet to be revealed, fans can keep up with Bohemia Interactive’s social media handles to stay up to date on any information about the upcoming sequel.
