The gameplay trailer for Laika: Aged Through Blood, the first-ever motorvania game, premiered at the Future Games Showcase 2023.
Developed by Brainwash Gang, the game takes place in a post-apocalyptic wasteland and features gun-slinging, high-speed vehicular combat unlike anything seen before. The 2D, Mad Max-ian animation style of the game is beautiful, with a hand-painted wasteland filled with deserted buildings, rouge monsters, and decaying civilization. The protagonist is a battle-hardened wolf, roaming the barren and bloody landscape on a motorcycle. The core story of the game is a heart-breaking relationship between a mother and daughter, depicting a tale of loss and desire with violence-fueled vengeance.
Laika: Aged Through Blood features action-heavy vehicular combat
In the Laika game, the motorcycle is not only a means for players to travel but also acts as the key element for the game’s high-stakes combat. Players can perform a limited number of extremely awesome stunts on their bikes, backflipping to avoid enemy attacks and changing directions amidst an air jump to shoot foes on different sides.
The trailer for Laika: Aged Through Blood also sheds light on various gameplay mechanics, including crafting and upgrading weapons. Players will be able to use the collected and looted materials throughout the game to visit smiths and vendors in empty towns. There, they will be able to craft new types of weapons and upgrade the ones they have. To set the tone for the game, a couple of massive boss battles were also fleetingly shown in the trailer, with a humongous skeleton of a beast charging at the protagonist through tunnels.
Laika: Aged Through Blood is set to release later in 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Windows (through Epic Game Store & Steam), and Nintendo Switch. The developer Brainwash Gang is also releasing a demo for the game on June 19 on Steam.
