Take-Two Interactive might be gearing up to announce the next mainline entry in the Mafia franchise, according to popular leaker Kurakasis.
Previously known for unearthing official names for titles like Marvel’s 1943: Rise of Hydra, Metro Awakening, and Indiana Jones, Kurakasis is known for discovering such information through trademark filings. At the end of their latest X post, the leaker mentioned “TM”, hinting towards acquiring the latest Mafia 4 intel via the same method.
Kurakasis wrote in the post,
“I can tell you that a few days ago, Take-Two began preparations for an announcement regarding the Mafia series.”
The leaker went on to insinuate that the announcement could be about 3-4 weeks away, since Take-Two followed a similar timeline for the announcement of Judas. The publisher debuted Judas at PlayStation State of Play, so it’s possible that it might announce Mafia 4 at the PlayStation showcase rumored to be taking place in May.
Mafia franchise developer Hangar 13 released Mafia: Definitive Edition in September 2020 and officially confirmed the development of Mafia 4 in 2022. Assuming the developer could potentially be working on the new title since 2020, an announcement this year wouldn’t be far-fetched.
While the developer has kept Mafia 4 under the wraps, a job listing leak from 2023 had revealed that the game would be running Unreal Engine 5. More recent leaks have suggested that the new title would be a prequel to the first Mafia game. It will reportedly be set in Sicily in the late 19th to early 20th century and follow the story of Don Salieri.
