New download cards for Pikmin 4 seem to have surfaced in Japan and they shed light on various exciting upcoming features for the game. From the screenshots adorned on these leaked download cards, we could surmise that local two player mode has been added in the game, as well as some new treasures, like fidget spinners, beach balls, and origami items.

Pikmin 4 will feature a split-screen multiplayer mode
Players are certainly excited about the Pikmin 4 split-screen multiplayer mode and there has been a lively debate about how this mode might work. Some believe that one player will be able to play as the Otachi, the large shaggy dog, while the other might be able to take on the role of spaceman Captain. The screenshot on the back of these download cards suggest that this will be a co-op mode, with one player assigned with movement and other assigned to help them by locking onto enemies with a reticle to deploy Pikmins. However, this strategy for co-op play has not amused a lot of people.

Pikmin 4 is built using Unreal Engine and players can now enter the house
The Pikmin 4 download cards also confirm that the game has been developed using Unreal Engine. This has confounded the fans fo the series, as almost all games so far from Nintendo have been built using their in-house engine. Apart from this, a screenshot confirms that the players will be able to navigate a house in Pikmin 4. Previous installments have taken place in gardens and forests, however, there never has been an indoor location in the series. This news has further excited the fan base of the series, who are speculating the impact of this unique location on the gameplay.

The leaked download cards also shed a light on new characters coming to the game, with two distinct inclusions being a Rock Pikmin and an Ice Pikmin. We expect Nintendo to announce more about this at the Nintendo Direct Showcase on June 21.
Pikmin 4 will be released on July 21, 2023, for Nintendo Switch.
