According to rumors, Konami is planning on reviving some of its most popular and best-selling franchises as PlayStation exclusives. Among these are three franchises- Silent Hill, Metal Gear Solid, and Castlevania- expected to make their way to Sony soon, and that too, as exclusives.
Many video game companies work specifically with one console brand, something that has worked quite effectively in the past. However, in the last decade, many developers and publishers are opting to release their titles across platforms, which works well for some and not-so-well for others.
Sony has a long-standing history of fighting for exclusivity rights for certain game series and strives to keep some of its well-earners off rival services, such as Xbox game pass. Konami has never been Sony-exclusive before and has launched its titles on a variety of platforms. However, rumors suggest its recent eFootball series did not yield expected returns and might be the reason Konami is ending its hiatus and returning to some of their best-selling works.
Konami to revive Castlevania, Metal Gear Solid, and Silent Hill series exclusively for PlayStation
Konami previously declared the launch of the remake of Silent Hill 2, a survival horror game, exclusively for PS5 in October 2022. Subsequently, there also have been rumors regarding the remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, also exclusively for Sony. This title was originally released in 2004 for PS2.
Apart from those two, there also have been rumors of Konami reviving its extremely popular Castlevania series, and it is believed the company may even be in the development of an all-new Castlevania game.
Konami has been mostly silent in the past few years. The developer’s decision of focusing solely on mobile gaming platforms was criticized by many. In the last few years, Konami has solely focused on development of Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) series, which has been receiving lukewarm response from global audiences. Some gamers, however, prefer the PES titles to their FIFA series counterparts, owing to its cinematic and smooth playing experience.
