The unannounced Quake 2 Remastered has been recently rated by the Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) of South Korea. The committee has deemed that the upcoming remastered version of the 1997 classic should be ‘unavailable for youth’.
The committee has uploaded the information on their website along with the reasons for this rating. They claim that the game has displays of excessive violence and body damage, and that blood is frequently displayed in the game through the use of weapons. Owing to these reasons, they have decided to brandish the game as ‘Unavailable for Youth’.

GRAC’s rating foreshadows Quake 2 Remastered’s imminent release
This has happened before in the Quake franchise, as the committee had also rated Quake Remastered in 2021 before its official announcement. The announcement for the first remaster came a couple of months after the rating, at the QuakeCon 2021. The game was also released during the same festival. This year, the QuakeCon is scheduled for August 10 to 13 and will take place in Grapevine, Texas. If the last incidence is any indicator, fans might be able to get their hands on Quake 2 Remastered this August.
GRAC has had a long history of dropping ratings publicly before the developers had a chance to officially announce them. A similar thing happened to a League of Legends spin-off game called Mageseeker earlier this year. GRAC had also rated an unannounced Silent Hill game called Silent Hill: The Short Message in September 2022.

Some of them have been looking forward to an official remaster version of the game for a long time, as the unofficial remaster of Quake 2, dubbed Quake 2 RTX, had failed to impress the series’ fans despite its high-definition graphics and ray tracing capabilities.
Please make it happen! Quake 2 RTX is terrible and I want an updated remaster in the style of of the modern ports of doom and quake

However, some players, who were not totally on board with the remastered version of the first Quake game, have also taken to the internet to state their contempt.
Oooh Idk if that's necessary. It really improved Quake 1 but this already plays like a modern shooter. I imagine that a remaster of this'd just get rid of texture warping and I really don't want that
