Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe has announced that the highly anticipated 1.6 update is nearing completion, transitioning from major content additions to bug fixing and polishing. While the update’s scope ballooned beyond its initial conception, fans can rest assured that a 2024 release remains firmly on the horizon.
ConcernedApe, known for his dedication to the Stardew Valley community, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to share the update’s progress. He acknowledged that 1.6 “ended up being a little larger in scope than originally planned,” attributing this to the organic development process and his passion for the game. However, he assured fans that major content additions have concluded, and the current focus is on refining existing features and ensuring a smooth launch.
While details surrounding the full extent of 1.6’s content remain under wraps, ConcernedApe has previously teased several exciting additions. These include over 100 lines of new dialogue for villagers, winter outfits adding seasonal flair, and a revamped billboard quest system with fresh rewards. Additionally, PC players can look forward to expanded multiplayer capabilities, supporting up to eight simultaneous farmers.
Previous sneak peeks offered even more tantalizing glimpses into 1.6’s offerings. Three brand-new festivals promise to inject fresh life into Pelican Town’s calendar, while new endgame features cater to seasoned players seeking extended challenges. In addition to skill expansions, new items, and crafting recipes, a brand new farm type is being introduced.
ConcernedApe also addressed concerns regarding platform release schedules, emphasizing his desire to minimize the time gap between PC and console/mobile launches. He acknowledged the “nightmare” of past delays and expressed his commitment to a simultaneous rollout whenever possible.
While we don’t know when it will be released, it’s gone to bug fixes and polishing means it’s very close. I’d imagine that we should see it released after a few months.
