Microsoft is replacing the base tier of its subscription service after 21 years, introducing Xbox Game Pass Core. The entry level pass, currently known as Xbox Live Gold is being rebranded as Xbox Game Pass Core.
It will feature some of its predecessor’s benefits, while changing others. Xbox Live Gold plan will be stopped from September 1, 2023, and the existing Live Gold subscribers will be ported to Core plan.
Xbox Game Pass Core will cost same as the Live Gold plan
The cost of Xbox Game Pass Core is same as the Live Gold variant, at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year. This pass will offer the owners of Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S the access to online multiplayer games, same as the Live Gold pass.
Xbox memberships have now been divided into four plans, namely, Core, Console, PC, and Ultimate. It’s really surprising to see the inclusion of Xbox Game Pass Core, as the next plan, Console, costs only a dollar more per month and retains all the benefits – including hundreds of titles strong games library and access to new releases on day one.
Xbox Game Pass Core will offer subscribers access to a catalogue of 25 games
The major change in the revised Xbox Game Pass Core plan is the inclusion of limited number of games. While Xbox Live Gold offered its subscribers access to various monthly games, the new variant is set to offer gamers a library of 25 console games. Furthermore, this pass also offers players exclusive member deals and discounts.
Some of the games available with Xbox Game Pass Core have been revealed and unsurprisingly, most of them are first party games from Xbox Games Studio. Some popular Bethesda titles are also included in the list. It currently includes:
- Among Us
- Descenders
- Dishonored 2
- DOOM Eternal
- Fable Anniversary
- Fallout 4
- Fallout 76
- Forza Horizon 4
- Gears 5
- Grounded
- Halo 5: Guardians
- Halo Wars 2
- Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
- Human Fall Flat
- INSIDE
- Ori & The Will of the Wisps
- Psychonauts 2
- State of Decay 2
- The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited
The Xbox Game Pass Core is slated for release on September 14, 2023. Microsoft has claimed that the library of games for this new variant will keep expanding in future.
