Ice users in anime are more common than grains of sand on a beach. Characters with these skills are the ideal counterbalance to fire-wielding enemies because Ice is exactly the opposite of fire by nature. Only ice users are nearly as prevalent in anime as fire users. Since the use of water and ice powers can range from hilarity to serious action, they can be used in a number of situations and are frequently visually pleasing.
In anime, people who use fire are generally always hot-blooded, while people who use ice aren’t necessarily calm and collected either. Some of these strong ice users frequently have a burning enthusiasm for what they stand up for and whatever they have faith in. The majority of ice-wielding anime characters have the ability to freeze their enemies, leaving them icy and helpless.
Ice-welding figures are therefore among the most potent skills in the anime universe. The majority of battle scenarios with Ice welders are drenched in ice, intensely terrifying, and unfathomably chilling. The heroes on the following list have the ability to develop into the strongest ice-based anime characters.
Gray Fullbuster and 12 other ice users in anime, ranked by power
12. Isaac MacDougal from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
My Top 10 favorite Ice Users:
9. Isaac McDougal (Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood) pic.twitter.com/NBfVKM1MD1— kumonimukatte (@kumonimukatte) August 29, 2020
Isaac McDougal, commonly referred to as the Frozen Alchemist, was an expert in water and ice-based alchemy. He did all he could during Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood to attempt and overthrow his own country’s government because he was disgusted with how the government there handled during Ishval Civil War.
With his abilities, he could compete with Roy Mustang in combat and control the water’s movement in someone else’s body. He was an intimidating threat because he had the ability to completely freeze an opponent, but he was also short-lived and was swiftly defeated by the formidable Fuhrer.
11. Haku from Naruto
Hot take.
This was the saddest death in Naruto, next to Haku and Zabuza 🤷🏾♂️ pic.twitter.com/PhztnryDaj— Noah✴ (@Rockybalnoahh) July 11, 2023
Haku of the “Ice release” is an anime-manga character from Naruto and a member of the snow clan. He matches the anime theme about how appearances can be deceptive nicely. Although he appears to be a typical fifteen-year-old, his strategy of killing his opponents in silence renders him extremely dangerous.
Haku is a prime example of how appearances can be deceiving. Although he appears to be an ordinary fifteen-year-old, his method of sneakily killing his adversaries makes him extremely lethal. His powers involve ice crystal-made demonic mirrors with superhuman speed that seem to be tearing through space. He has incredible absolute speed, which gives him an advantage over foes. However, it is merely a fast-foot technique combined with the manipulation of the wind and water.
10. Lyon Vastia from Fairy Tail

Lyon Vastia is one of the two mages that Ur, the foremost Ice-Make magician, has trained in Ice Make magic. He has the ability to transform living things into ice forms. Videos have seen him turning panthers into enormous snow dragons.
His initial shortcoming was his inability to produce static items like weapons and shields, but with time he also learned to employ Static Ice Make Magic. He has the capacity to turn other creatures into ice thanks to his Iced Shell, although doing so would also cost him his life force.
9. Shoto Todoroki from My Hero Academia
Happy #ToriiTuesday! Today's #torii are TWO-TONE! ⛩️💊
Iimori Shrine's 飯盛神社 (Fukuoka) red+white torii gives me strong #Todoroki vibes! No explanation for the color but it leads to two 'wedded' cedar trees & evokes relational ties (enmusubi). 🧵#MyHeroAcademia #僕のヒーロー pic.twitter.com/lHUiJj4ckm
— Kaitlyn Ugoretz @kaitlynugoretz.bsky.social (@KaitlynUgoretz) July 18, 2023
Shoto Todoroki was created to outperform all other heroes, take the top spot as the world’s greatest hero, and emerge as the subsequent symbol of peace. Shoto, who was born to ice-user Rei and flame-wielder Enji Todoroki, can control both ice and fire.
But his dislike of his father prevents him from using his flame powers, leading him to specialise at using his ice powers instead. He’s demonstrated with them that he can easily take out low-level criminals, but there is certainly a limit. He overuses the powers and gets frostbite due to his lack of familiarity with them.
8. Emilia from Re:Zero

— Tweet Emilia images! (@JapaneseOwn_O1) July 9, 2023
One of the series’ key characters, Emilia is an isekai who stands apart from the majority of works in the category. Since most significant events are connected to Emilia, the protagonist of the series’ romantic interest, she is unquestionably the main character.
She is a skilled magician who practises the Ice Branding Arts, enabling her to forge ice-based weaponry. Emilia has complete control over these weapons, making them the ideal offensive and defensive tool. Absolute Zero, which enables Emilia to instantly freeze everything around her, is her most powerful ice ability. The centre of this spell has become so potent that time temporarily stops there.
7. Aokiji Kuzan from One Piece
This character previously belonged to the Marine Admirals, a group of the Marines’ most formidable fighters. Aokiji, possessor of the Ice-Based Logia Fruit, has total command over ice. He has the ability to instantly change into ice, however he can also instantly turn any of his opponents into ice, destroying their flesh with a single blow.
Despite the fact that he embraces Lazy Justice, nobody else wants to get involved with him because doing so increases the risk of losing immediately. On the other hand, he can’t be hurt when he’s within his ice form because he’ll just regenerate.
6. Esdeath from Akame Ga Kill
Smash or Pass Esdeath?

Demon’s Extract, a weapon that Esdeath can use to control ice, is at her disposal. She has the capacity to instantly freeze enormous areas, and after some practise she was even able to freeze thousands of soldiers.
Esdeath’s ability to “freeze” time itself is what makes her so terrifying, yet it depletes quite a few of her psychic abilities. Though she could be exhausted afterwards, there doesn’t appear to be any end to all that she can accomplish. When she has enough strength, she has even covered an entire continent.
5. Toshiro Hitsugaya from Bleach
https://twitter.com/euphoriyys/status/1680264048758104066
Hitsugaya frequently comes off as less spectacular due to the series’ repeated deployment of a major danger. However, it has been established that Hitsugaya is the owner of the most potent ice Zanpakuto in the entire globe.
When Hitsugaya’s knowledge is combined with the diversity of techniques Hyorinmaru possesses, he becomes extremely dangerous—against foes other than Aizen. With just four seconds to charge, his perfected Hyorinmaru can freeze matter, and any substance that comes into collision with him will likewise become frozen.
4. Evangeline AK McDowell from Negimai
Evangeline has had decades to hone her trade, unlike the majority of the rest of the ice users in anime. She is an immortal and has spent years traveling between Mars and the planet Earth while fending off dangers to both humanity and immortals. Krystalline Basiliea, her own adaptation of the spell Magia Erebia, is one among her strongest spells.
She collects her most potent ice spell and dons ice armour as Magia Erebia introduces the magician with the lifeblood of their personalised attack magic to augment their power. She may cast subsequent ice abilities without chanting incantations once this spell is cast, eliminating a mage’s worst flaw.
3. Gray Fullbuster from Fairy Tail
Happy birthday Gray Fulbuster👏👏👏💞💞💞💓💙💙👑👑🎁🎊🎉🎉🎊🎂

— Emi🩶✨ (@stan_FT_EZ) February 13, 2022
When discussing ice wielders, Gray should be mentioned frequently. The one “limitation” he has is that he is limited to employing his Ice Make powers to make static items. However, he has also used this power to defeat each additional ice practitioner in his realm. Even ice mages who have the ability to freeze cold magic itself have been defeated by Gray.
No, it is illogical, but that is anime. The fact that he is also the Ice Devil Slayer may have contributed to some of his ludicrous abilities by giving him access to additional powers and tactics, such as the ability to quickly and simply freeze anything around him.
2. Metalgarurumon from Digimon
All I'm sayin' is, if you know the difference between Gabumon and MetalGarurumon, you know the difference between he/him, she/her and they/them, so maybe just afford people the same respect you'd afford these Digimon…which is all of the respect. pic.twitter.com/NBXQDrO5kv
— AntiRivet (@AntiRivetVO) July 14, 2023
MetalGarurumon adopts a different strategy from the majority of machine and machine-like Digimon, who rely on electric and plasma blasts, as well as explosive missiles. The majority of the weapons on its body, which have more than you can count, are designed to deal low-temperature damage.
MetalGarurumon prefers to freeze its victims rather than devour them in flames. This is evidenced by everything from its chilling breath to the many missiles concealed within its body. This Monster can extend a pair of beam-shaped wings to zone close to something before it can blink, however it can also stay still and attack from a distance. It is almost impossible to avoid this Digimon’s icy wrath given the variety of radiation and X-ray sensors at its disposal.
1. Ami Mizuno from Sailor Moon
Ami Mizuno, from Sailor Moon Eternal 💙💙 pic.twitter.com/taMnf0kdzA
— Daily Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury (@MizunoDaily) November 26, 2021
Ami obtains control over the ice element when she becomes Sailor Mercury. She has a lot of ice- or cold-based abilities, most of them are defensive in nature. The Inner Senshi’s lone support member, Sailor Mercury, analyses their foes for vulnerabilities and comes up with various strategies and tactics.
The two tools that help her with these activities the most are her handheld Mercury Computer and VR Visor. Sailor Mercury isn’t a fighter; she hardly ever meets the opposition in hand-to-hand combat. Her thinking is her most powerful tool. Ami is the team’s brains as Sailor Mercury, typically coming up with our tactics and methods.
