The quest A Letter From The Fire Mages is part of the main storyline in Gothic 1 Remake, and it is added to the quest log at the start of the game. You can’t do anything about the letter in the early sections of the game; you must unlock the route to the Castle in the Old Camp to start working on the letter and get the rewards awaiting you at the end.
In this guide, we will take a close look at all the choices that fall at the end of the A Letter From The Fire Mages quest line, where we have to decide whether to give the letter to Milton or Torrez in Gothic 1 Remake.
A Letter From The Fire Mages Quest
You can’t miss the quest, as it happens, at the start of the game, but you will need to play a bit to get into the Castle section of Old Camp. Once you gain entrance to the Inner Castle, head east of the main entrance, and you will find Milton standing at the entrance of the Temple of Innos. Torrez is located in the small room, right of Milton. We have marked the spot for both Milton and Torrez in the picture above. Now we have two options to carry out the delivery:
- Give The Letter to Milton (Opened/Sealed)
- Give The Letter to Torrez (Opened/ Sealed)
When you get the letter for the first time, it will be in its sealed condition. You have the option to read it on your own, but if you do read the letter, the seal gets broken. Both Milton and Torrez will notice the broken seal and lessen the reward compared to the sealed condition.
Option 1: Give The Letter to Milton
Head over to Milton at the Temple of Innos and talk to him about the letter. Milton will tell you Master Corristo is the Highest Fire Mage in the temple, and now you need to decide whether to hand the letter to Milton or Torrez. Choose Milton by selecting the dialogue option: “All right. Here”.

The A Letter From The Fire Mages Quest will get completed, as Milton will move back into the temple to give the letter to the Fire Mage, Master Corristo. The reward for the quest completion will show up after a day.
Now talk to Milton, and he will tell you to get your rewards from Torrez. He can be found in the open area on the right side of the Temple of Innos. Torrez will ask you to choose the following rewards:
- #1: Ring of Power (It has +5 Strength but -5 Dexterity)
- #2: Ring of Lesser (You just gain +5 Dexterity without any cons)
- #3: 3x Magic Scrolls (Fireball/ Ball Lightning/ Fire Lizard Transformation scrolls)
- #4: Essence of Spirit (Get +2 Mana, permanent effect)
I will recommend choosing to give the Sealed Letter to Milton and get
1) the 400 XP bonus,
2) the option to choose between 2 useful rings and 2 additional items
Option 2: Give The Letter to Torrez
First, talk to Milton and refuse to give the letter to him by choosing the dialogue option:” I’ll give the letter straight to Torrez”
