Along with one-of-a-kind duo emote and exclusive Pride tints, the Sunkissed Summer: Beauty and the Beach event for Palia also added a new feature called The Great Shimmerfly Migration. Basically, for the duration of this event, players can catch Shimmerfly: a butterfly-like insect that can be used as decor for your plot.
They are spread all across the Kilima’s sky, so in this guide, I will go over the best locations and way to catch this colorful creature.
Best Shimmerfly Location in Palia

The best locations to catch a Shimmerfly are:
- Southernmost section of Remembrance Beach
- East of Mirror Pond Ruins
- West of Mirror Fields
- North of Remembrance Garden

Before you start the insect-hunt however, talk to Auni and accept the “Scouting For Shimmerflies: Intro” bulletin board quest, so your catches count towards quest completion.
While I have listed out the best places to catch a Shimmerfly, these are found all over the map at any time of the day. They are easy to spot, what with the glow and the distinctive cyan and pink color that sets them apart from common butterflies. There’s a good chance you might find Shimmerflies while completing other activities like figuring out how to get Flutterhoney, or just generally exploring.
How to Catch a Shimmerfly
First of all, I suggest you take up catching this particular creature at night. Yes, they spawn during the day as well, but their distinctive glow makes them visibly pop out when its dark. And even though rare, Shimmerflies can be categorized as one of the easiest flying creatures to catch in the game. They fly in a simple, straight direction, making it very easy to predict their movements.

When you spot a Shimmerfly, equip your smoke bomb and throw it at the Shimmerfly. The slow fly speed works in your favor, allowing you to chuck two or even three smoke bombs before it escapes. Depending on your range, the second or the third smoke bomb should knock it out of the sky. Simply walk over to where it crashed, and you will get a prompt to collect it.
You need a total of 30 Shimmerflies to complete the quest, and you can keep catching more for the Insect-A-Palooza event. Additionally, they can also be given as a gift to the village folk or just sold to Zeki. For the duration of this event, make sure you have a few spare ones if the need arises.
