Beast of Reincarnation is a third person action-adventure title by none other than GameFreak. With a ton of Pokémon experience under their belt, it was kind of obvious they put a creature to accompany the protagonist Emma on her journey. In this case, it is a majestic direwolf called Koo. Just like the Pokémon games, you cannot directly control Koo. Instead, you can assign abilities and tinker with the level of aggression it shows during fights.
In this guide, I will go over one of the strongest early game abilities for Koo, the Torch Flame.
How to Unlock Koo’s Torch Flame Ability
In full disclosure, it is fairly simple to acquire this ability. However, most people don’t realize they got it, or don’t know how to equip and use it.

During Chapter 1, after you are done investigating the village for clues, your next objective is to search fort the Subcity entrance. This begins the quest ‘The Foreman in Subcity’. After talking to the robot, leave the shed and turn right into the ravine. The path fortunately matches with your objective, so you can follow the quest marker for now.

Once you reach a stack of wooden spikes, jump down into the pit behind it instead of continuing the normal way. Koo will detect two enemies above you, but you can always come back to eliminate them and get the XP later. At the end of this pit, there is a bunch of breakable boxes and another robotic enemy. Deal with and break those boxes, which reveal a valley behind them.

At first glance, it might seem like a dead end, but you can use your vines to get to the platform on the other side. Continue ahead through the tunnel, and Koo will again detect an enemy ahead of you. Walk up to it, and you will notice his weapon looking different from the enemies you encountered till now. Instead of conventional weapons, he is sporting a flaming mace.

This is the enemy you want to engage with. Upon defeat, it finally drops the Torch Flame ability. But it isn’t over yet; simply picking the ability up doesn’t mean you can use it. You need to manually equip it. Head to the Equipment tab in the menu, and switch to Koo. Here, you will see multiple slots for skills at the bottom. Choose one, and equip the skill to activate it.

Torch is a passive ability that makes Koo’s basic attacks build up 100 Flame over time, dealing additional burn damage to enemies. This is a great early game tool that will help you sustain when outnumbered, especially considering you don’t need to specify a command for this attack.
