Working overtime in any profession can lead to some issues, and when you are running a graveyard, pushing the limit will be a common occurrence. When that happens, the game has a way to remind you to go back to the stable cycle to stay away from any problems. In Graveyard Keeper 2, the game comes with an Insanity meter, which tends to activate if you push yourself too much while working.
In your initial sessions, seeing the Insanity option rise will happen many times, but mostly unintentionally, so you must be prepared to handle the problem right away. Here I will cover the best way to lower the Insanity meter in Graveyard Keeper 2.
How to Cure Insanity in Graveyard Keeper 2

Catching a good night’s sleep and baking food are the best ways to cure Insanity in Graveyard Keeper 2.
If you continue to work while tired, you will gain Insanity from lack of sleep. The only way to get tired is by working for two in-game days without any sleep. Once the Insanity meter (purple brain icon next to energy, top-left of the HUD) starts rolling, it will lower your energy bar, forcing you to do something about it.
It’s a pretty straightforward mechanic, and the game punishes you for working over time. At the same time, the game also offers a handful of ways to reduce Insanity and helps you indicate the problem by showing you a blue “ZZZ” circle icon at the top of the HUD for your Lack of Sleep.
- Option #1: You can bake a consumable item, “Berry Pie,” to lower Insanity and restore energy. You can craft one at the Kitchen Oven. Arguably, here you have the best option; the pie removes 3 Insanity, and you can bake 4 pies at a time (4 dough + 6 berries ingredient cost). This is especially useful when you are completing quests to increase Gratitude.
Note: If you don’t have the ingredients to craft a Berry Pie, just head over to the Tavern and get a beer to fix the issue.
- Option #2: Don’t work at night; just hit the bed to avoid catching Insanity. Do make sure to sleep when you are tired; you can look at the ZZZ icon at the top as an indicator of your tiredness. Sleeping when you are not tired will not influence insanity.
I recommend the best policy is to hit the bed when you see the icon for Lack of Sleep. If you do that, then you will never have any problem with the rising Insanity meter in Graveyard Keeper 2.
