Dream Dust is one of the first major alchemy items you will come across in Graveyard Keeper 2. The item is needed for the Sweet Dreams quest and the fairy-summoning quest line. It is also the key that will unlock the Plague Doctor’s help and will get you your first free zombies. That said, this item cannot be purchased or picked up in the world. You must craft this yourself once you have the right stations and research items.

Step-by-Step: How to Unlock and Craft Dream Dust in Graveyard Keeper 2
Unlocking Dream Dust in Graveyard Keeper 2 can be quite a lengthy process, but if you know exactly which NPC’s to talk to, it becomes a lot easier. Here’s how I unlocked the item:
Open the Basement
Talk to Bally and raise your friendship with him to level 10. Once your friendship with Bally is high enough, speak to Gerry the skull at your home base. He unlocks the eastern basement hallway. This is where you can find the Plague Doctor.
Free the Plague Doctor
Head down into the underground dungeon, clear the rubble blocking the cell, and free the Plague Doctor. He is the gateway to the Anatomy & Alchemy branch of the tech tree and is an extremely important NPC in the game if you want to unlock Dream Dust in Graveyard Keeper 2.
Unlock the Abandoned Tower
After freeing the Plague Doctor, the Abandoned Tower on your property becomes accessible. Use the Inquisitor Medallion together with the secret combination note (both should already be in your inventory from story progress) to open the door.
Research the Ingredients
Inside the tower’s Alchemy Lab, use the Study Table. Research one blue item and one green item so the game records their rune values.
The easiest and most consistent pair is:
- Blood
- Water
Craft Dream Dust
Move to the Laboratory / Flask table. Combine the researched ingredients. The standard combination that worked for me is Blood + Water.
(Alchemy is rune-based, so other green + blue pairs can also produce Dream Dust once you’ve studied them.)
Deliver it
Take the finished Dream Dust back to the Plague Doctor. He will accept it, advance the quest, and reward you with two free zombies plus access to further alchemy and reanimation abilities.

While the process itself becomes much simpler when you know about the NPCs, these tips will help you beyond the particular quest as well:
- There is a chest in the lab area which includes alchemy flasks and research papers. You can use them on the Study Table for extra research points if you are short.
- Dream Dust can be later used in a few of the Formulation Bench recipes, such as Crop Boosting Fertilizers II and Fancy Incense. That said, the first batch you make will be purely for the Plague Doctor’s fairy quest.
- Once you have learnt the recipe, you can craft more as needed.
