Minecraft Dungeons 2 features a large world for us to explore, and on our journey we will meet many fascinating people. Don’t let the common appearance of the NPCs fool you, as their quests will have you take on large monsters, get rewards, and ocassionally an achievement in the end.
In this guide, I will be focusing on one such quest, “Corruption in the Woods.” Our job is to track down the corruption, help out the people who sadly got caught in the corruption, and finally remove it altogether to free the land from corruption.
How to Start Corruption in the Woods in Minecraft Dungeons 2

Talking to the Cartographer in the Brave Haven area to kick off the Corruption in the Woods quest. Our journey begins at Brave Haven; once you are in the town, make your way to the Enchantsmith Stall. Here you find a Cartographer suggesting you take the minecart back to Little Howl and reach deeper parts of Howling Woods.
He will also advise you to search for the entrance to those caves to find out about the Illager High Council and give you a warning about the Supreme Evoker. Once the conversation is done, you will start the quest “Corruption in the Woods”.
Into the Howling Woods

Head up to the Howling Woods by fast travelling to the “Little Howl Hamlet” point. Once in the town, talk to the man by the stairs, next to the closed gate. He will open the gate for us to finally reach the deeper parts of Howling Woods. Go through the gate, and you will end up in a pretty large area to explore.
The route to our quest objective is linear. I would advise killing off enemies in the area before heading towards the objective. You will find tons of coins and enclosed chests lying around the zone. Once you’re done cleaning it all off, then head to the objective marker, which will be near the waterfall. Then our next objective will be about “Search for Deep Dark Caves.“
Our next route will take us behind the waterfall, and the route is again linear, but there are many exploding Illager infestations in the area. I will recommend slowing down your walk speed; don’t rush in, or you will get caught in the explosion. Soon later, you will find a forager standing outside the cave. Talk to him, and he will start telling you about the friends who went deeper into the caves looking for mushrooms but never returned.
You can now clearly guess where you should go next; head inside the cave, as the mission objective will get updated to “Enter the Spider Caves“.
Rescue the Trapped Foragers

Once inside the Spider Caves, the primary goal is to reach the middle of the cave and rescue the foragers trapped in the web. Be prepared to get ambushed by many roaming Illagers. Defeat the enemies, grab the loot, and then keep on moving forward. Once you reach the middle of the cave, you will find the three foragers trapped in the spider web, and once again, you will get ambushed by a bunch of Illagers.
Once you deal with the enemies, talk to the trapped foragers; they will tell you the Illagers are on their way to the Deep Dark, but they discovered they entered the wrong cave. After the conversation, the foragers will agree to meet you outside the Spider Cave. Now just follow the objective marker to leave the Spider Cave.
Once you leave the Spider Cave via the exit, you will find the rescued foragers outside, standing near the exit, waiting for your arrival. Talk to them, and they will tell you the Deep Dark caves lie ahead but give you a warning about the Witch who lives at the entrance of the cave. They also praise your performance in dealing with the enemies in the spider cave and hype you up before the fight with the Witch. Don’t fall for their words; the Witch is a difficult boss fight unlike the things we encountered in the Spider Cave.
After a short walk, you will discover a fast travel point, “Deep Dark Entrance.” Keep on following the route, and you will find a lone cauldron in the middle of the area. Unlike the cauldron you will typically encounter with Witches, this one is cubicle-shaped. Nevertheless, interact with the cauldron to start the cutscene of the Witch. Now the objective is to defeat the “Soul Corrupted Witch.”
Tips for Defeating the Soul Corrupted Witch

The Soul Corrupted Witch boss can be a difficult encounter, and she will put out quite a good number of attacks almost rapidly without taking breaks in between. One of the major difficulties of the boss is the area itself; you will have to deal with limited space while also engaging with her AoE-based attacks. One wrong move can easily take up most of your HP. Here are tips to help you deal with the Witch:
- One of the more frequent attacks is the toxic bombs. The witch will drop around 3 toxic bombs, one after another, at your current location. The best way to deal with it is by moving; don’t stay idle in one spot, or you will get caught by the toxic bombs and the fumes that linger after their explosion.
- Toxic is not the only element in her arsenal; she will also drop fire bombs. They are also dangerous but less lethal compared to the toxic variants. The fire doesn’t linger once the bomb explodes, but the toxic does; that’s why they are more dangerous than common fire bomb attacks.
- I highly recommend you rely on the ranged attacks to deal most amount of damage to the witch than choosing melee. The witch always hides behind the toxic fumes from the dropped bombs; getting close to the Witch will result in you winding up in the toxic fumes.
- The fight will not be one-on-one; you will get random enemies cluttering the area. Take care of them early on so they will not get in the way when the witch starts dropping toxic bombs, or you will get stuck in a place to face the music.
- When you get too close to the witch for any melee strike, she will also start shooting lightning out of her hands. That’s why I advise relying on the ranged attack to stay on the safer side of the area.
Once the witch is defeated, you will get the loot and the quest will be complete. Defeating the witch also unlocks the achievement or trophy “Craftier than Witchcraft.” As the game opens up, do also keep an eye out for secret talismans in Minecraft Dungeons 2, as they offer some powerful boosts.
