The internet has been fairly obsessed with the Pink-Haired Pilot Girl from Ace Combat 8, even if they’ve never touched the franchise at all. At times, it does feel like most of the discussion around Ace Combat 8 is about the girl with the pink hair. This obsession has led to many admiring posts online, and people want to try out the game they never thought of playing; even the Brand Director responded to the new obsession.

Who is the Pink-Haired Girl in Ace Combat 8?

The pink-haired girl’s real name is Anastasia Severskaya in Ace Combat 8. In the game, she serves as a Yuktobanian or Union of Yuktobanian Republics aerobatic and an aviator for the Federation of Central Uses Navy, or FCUN for short. Originally, her name was Tasha Seversky, but under Slavic naming conventions, Seversky is seen as more masculine, suitable for a man. Severskaya is considered feminine, a better choice for a female; hence the name was switched from Tasha Seversky to Tasha Severskaya.

Tasha always wanted to become a professional in aerobatics, but fate had something different planned out for her. Anastasia Severskaya was born to Nikolai Seversky (Father) and her mother (unnamed), a Yuktobanian Air Force ace pilot. She learned to fly from her mother but never wanted to become a combat aviator like her, as her dream was to become a professional aerobatician.

Before the Sotoa-Usea war, Tasha was on FCU Endurance to shoot publicity footage. Once the war broke out, Tasha and her father became stranded on the FCU Endurance; here, she received her special commission from the FCUN to enlist and join the combat. She became a fighter pilot in the Joker Fight squadron. During her time in the squadron, she learned many flying techniques, making her better at evasion and disruption. She also sought help from Baxter to help her with her studies.

She did think about leaving Endurance after the reclamation of Theve and a successful defence against Xanthos, but she stayed after learning about Operation Raincoat and rejoined the Joker Flight Squadron. After the war, Tasha left the FCUN and promised never to participate in air combat again.

The character is successful and has garnered quite a lot of a fan base; the Brand Director Kazutoki Kono did mention Tasha being the most expensive character in the game. He did mention why she earned the title in the game by saying, “Work on Tasha started relatively early, and she was originally designed by a different artist. She is also the character that took the longest to finalize”.

He continued, “Her story and direction were already set, but we kept modifying various aspects afterward, making her the character we refined the longest during development. That’s why inside the development team, we jokingly call her ‘the most expensive character. I think elements like her personality, outfit, and especially her sense of fashion in wearing military attire so uniquely happened to fit current trends well, which contributed to all the attention she received.”  (Source: Inven Global)
