Valor Mortis is a first-person soulslike title from the creators of Ghostrunner with a really interesting plot. In it, you rise from the dead as a former soldier of Napoleon’s army and have to fight through the monster-ridden Europe. The title interestingly mixes combat with actions like wall-running and a list of short but tragic side stories that can reward you if you look for them throughout your journey.
Homesick was one of such side quests that I found while exploring the Caverns in Chapter 4. During this quest, I came across a letter from a wife who is still waiting for her husband to come home. This note pulls William into a short investigation about the missing father who failed to make it back. Unlike quests like the Monster Hunt, this one doesn’t send you on a scavenger hunt for multiple items, but keeps the experience contained. In this guide, I will walk you through the quest.
How to Complete Homesick in Valor Mortis
The Homesick side quest in Valor Mortis can be found in the Caverns during Chapter 4: Dark Descent. It is located near the Last Sunlight Lantern. Let’s go through the entire route of the quest:

From the Last Sunlight Lantern, head towards the east side through the passage until you reach the blue memory of the Concerned Mother.

Pick up the Longing Wife Letter, which can be found on the ground right beside the memory, to begin the Homesick quest.

Continue into the big chamber, which is filled with enemies. Stick to the left side of the room.

Near the far end of the chamber, look for a torch lying on the ground next to a hole in the floor. Drop down through this hole.

On the lower level, you will have to deal with the enemies, then use the blue grapple point to cross the gap. Jump across the water to the boat and pick up the Death Notice.

Return to the original blue memory area near the Last Sunlight Lantern, then interact with the spot. William will read the father’s letter aloud, and the quest will be finished.
Completing this quest will reward you with the Bottomless Well Amber.
What Does the Letter Reveal?
The Longing Wife Letter is from the woman and her children who are waiting for their father to return. The Death Notice explains that the father became too sick in the cold caverns to make it home and asked anyone who found him to inform his family about the situation.
Returning and reading the final letter to the memory of the family will close the quest. In this one, there are no choices involved.
What is the Bottomless Well Amber in Valor Mortis

The Bottomless Well Amber is the reward for completing the Homesick side quest in Valor Mortis. It is one of the Ambers you can equip for passive combat benefits. It is a powerful Amber that can help you greatly during difficult fights in the game.
The quest itself does not have any associated trophy. But that said, even if you are not trophy hunting, I wouldn’t recommend missing this one. Much like most side quests in Valor Mortis, this one will also be a memorable experience. The quest itself will remain available even after you beat the main story. You can come back and finish it later if you missed it the first time.
That is the complete path for finishing the Homesick side quest in Valor Mortis. From finding the quest near the Last Sunlight Lantern, look for the Death Notice letter, to delivering the final message, the quest comes to an end.
