As My Hero Academia manga is heading to the final course of the series and the anime begins the final arc, the series has seen a lot of villains during its course. However, not all of them have stood out.
So, here are my picks for the 10 best villains in My Hero Academia.
Warning: This post will contain manga spoilers, which are yet to be adapted into the anime.
Top 10 Best Villains In My Hero Academia
10) Nomu
It would be a crime not to mention Nomus as they have served a great purpose in the plot of My Hero Academia and pushed our heroes to become their best. The first ever Nomus that appeared during U.S.J. showcased how strong they truly are as we saw it pushing the strongest hero, All Might to his limits.
The series then went on to reveal that these Nomus are modified corpses and each Nomus can be customized as Dr Kyudai Garaki and All For One desired. Some Nomus had multiple quirks and were as strong as the top-tier heroes.
As mentioned earlier, Nomus are a big part of My Hero Academia and all the credit should go to Dr Kyudai Garaki for making them.
9) Gentle Criminal And La Brava
Originally, I was planning on mentioning only Gentle for this entry. But I realize that Gentle’s villainous act is incomplete with La Brava as she indeed makes him whole. While we have several strong villains in the series, there are none such as Gentle and La Brava who were only in there for a minor yet very heart-touching role.
Gentle Criminal has the typical background of “wanting to become a hero went wrong” but what makes him special is the fact that his villainous act wasn’t so bad and he was only doing it for fame.
Later joined in by La Brava whose quirk only enhances The Gentle Criminal made an amazing small plot. Their latest contribution is helping the heroes in the final act of the series.
8) Yuga Aoyama
Yuga Aoyama was surprisingly revealed as a villain who had been acting as a double spy for the series’ main antagonist. It was revealed that Yuga was born quirkless and in search of power, he became a double spy for All For One in exchange for a quirk.
Yuga is responsible for all the misery that Class 1-A or the whole U.A. school went through due to all the information being leaked. However, it is later revealed that Yuga only did it because of fear and stood up to make things right when the time called for it putting a worthy close to the character.
7) Twice
Member of the League of Villains, Jin Bubaigawara going by his alias Twice is a unique character. With a tragic and sad upbringing and partly his fault, Twice developed multiple personalities. At first, Twice seemed goofy serving only as a side villain. However, he went on to participate in some major narration.
Twice’s quirks also seemed stale at first allowing him to clone only a few. But when the villain had a major upgrade, the heroes had a hard time dealing with it.
6) Overhaul
Kai Chisaki a.k.a. Overhaul, which is also the name of his quirk, serves as a major antagonist in season 4 of My Hero Academia. Overhaul had one of the strongest quirks in the series, with the ability to manipulate matter.
What makes Overhaul special is his goal and his desires that work as a very “Bible” for him and he is willing to kill anyone who gets in the way. Izuku Midoriya and Le Million did an amazing job at stopping the villain in season 4.
5) Himiko Toga
Also a member of the League of the Villains, Toga serves as an Iconic villain as not only her appearance has an effect on the viewers but her story as well. Toga has made her appearance quite several times becoming an obstacle for the heroes, especially the students from the U.A. Class 1-A.
Her character is built upon her quirk which desires her to drink the blood of the people she is ‘interested’ in or in love with. The ability allows her to transform into their appearance. After her quirk is upgraded, Toga can also use the quirks of the people she has transformed into.
4) Dabi
Dabi aka Toya Todoroki is also a major part of the League of Villinas much like the aforementioned Twice and Toga. Dabi is later revealed to be the son of the Hero, Endeavor with the fire using abilities much like the said hero.
Endeavor’s treatment of his son wanting to get him stronger than All Might drove Toya insane and he eventually became the power-hungry villain. Since then, Dabi’s only goal is the destruction of his father alongside his family.
3) All For One
All For One is the second main antagonist of the series in order. He is a very typical villain wanting to rule the world. His story isn’t unique per se, but the reason he is top in the top three is due to his intelligence and ability to see things through.
Another amazing aspect of All For One is his quirk which resembles his name, that allows him to steal other’s quirk for himself. Though he can also give quirk, All For One only does so for his sake.
2) Shigaraki
Tomura Shigaraki, also going by his real name Tenko Shimura, is the series’ main antagonist. He is also the type of villain who operates at their best and goes even beyond.
Tomura has only desired destruction due to the fact that he did not receive much love as a child. And later on, his quirk developed, which was good at destroying and decaying things as the name of the quirk suggests.
Now that Shigaraki serves as the enhanced All For One, the main protagonist will have to do something very different to stop him which we will get to see by the end of this year as the Manga could also conclude.
1) Stain
I am going a little biased by putting Stain at the top of My Hero Academia’s best villains list but this is the only villain that had a major impact on me besides Gentle Criminal. Stain a.k.a. Chizome Akaguro is also a typical “wanting to become a hero went wrong” but what sets his character apart is his goal and desire afterward.
Stain had resolute belief unlike most of the villains of the series, and this is what made him stand out the most for me. He believed that one must wield their power and become a hero with “Conviction”. Fittingly, he is known as the Hero Killer because he had killed many heroes as they did not have the conviction of being a hero.
