Wednesdays are a big deal for the Jujutsu Kaisen fandom as they gear up to welcome the latest chapter through spoilers and raw scans. This week, it’s Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 223, which sees the beginning of the highly anticipated Gojo vs Sukuna fight on December 24. Last week, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 222 saw Gojo and other students from Jujutsu Technical School training. Although an unexciting chapter, the events covered in the chapter happened quickly over a long period of time. While readers saw how Kenjaku plans to murder the remaining Culling Game participants, Gojo is wished luck by his students as he prepares to face off Sukuna in the final showdown.

Titled Evildoer’s Hell Battle Part 1, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 223 starts in Shibuya, with Ichiji asking Gojo about his time within the Prison Realm, the curse in which he was captured by Kenjaku during the Shibuya Incident arc. Gojo informs Ichiji that experiencing the time lapse within the Prison Realm is almost the same as busying oneself the whole week with work, which feels incredibly short in terms of working but also too long that one doesn’t want to relieve it yet again.
He then enquires about the people who were affected by his Unlimited Void, his Domain Expansion, during the Shibuya Incident, to which Ichiji replies that they are all recovered now. As Gojo climbs to the top of the building, he asks Utahime and Gakuganji, who are already there, to get started.

You see my eyes couldn't help but take note of how good he is with his hands… Coordination?! Check. Hand Dexterity?! Check. Good finger placement?! Check pic.twitter.com/46fSHQsKfy— 𝖄𝖔𝖚𝖘𝖗𝖆 (@Blvds_reliquiae) May 17, 2023
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 223 then transitions to Sukuna and Uraume, who remarks that although the fight between the King of Curses and Gojo is inevitable, it’s still unclear about the exact time and place of the battle. However, Sukuna replies that there is no need for that as he can sense the indomitable curse aura of Gojo from afar.
The chapter shifts focus again, this time going ahead with a flashback that sees Gakuganji and Gojo together. The former informs that he killed the principal of Tokyo Jujutsu High, Masamichi Yaga. However, the Six Eyes user answers indifferently with a monosyllabic “okay.” Gakuganji then asks why wouldn’t Gojo curse him for what he did, but the latter replies that it is his fault for being trapped within the Prison Realm, so he understands that the necessary actions were to be taken as a result of pressure from the higher-ups.
Gojo wants Gakuganji to replace the higher ups? #JJK223
Why?

In one of the panels, it is shown that Panda eavesdrops on their conversation. Gojo then asks Gakuganji about Yaga’s final words, which the latter says that he revealed the process of how to create cursed corpses. To this, Gojo remarks that Gakuganji seems to have changed as he didn’t report about this incident to the higher-ups.
Shockingly enough, the next manga page reveals that the higher-ups were killed, but it remains unclear who killed them. However, as Gojo comments that it would be best if Gakuganji is at the top of the hierarchy since that would mean things at Jujutsu High will be better to some extent. As Gojo leaves, he is asked by Ichiji why the Six Eyes user wants help from him. Gojo succinctly replies that it’s because he trusts Ichiji the most.
The flashbacks ends, and the present scene sees Ichiji setting up a barrier behind Gojo. Here, he monologs how, despite being a coward and not showing enough courage on the battlefield, the strongest curse user believes in him, which is why living up to Gojo’s expectations is tough for him.

In the next page, Utahime is seen performing Solo Solo Kinku, a curse technique that involves a dance ritual performance by the user to get a power enhancement for themselves and their immediate allies. In a brilliant series of panels, it is seen how Gojo, Utahime, Ichiji, and Gakuganji give it their all without omitting any steps to perform the curse technique. This leads to Gojo releasing the 200% powered Purple Hollow towards Sukuna, which destroys everything on its way.

The King of Curses feels intimidated by the curse technique since he underestimated Gojo’s ability so much that he didn’t take into account Ichiji’s forming barrier. As Sukuna tries to stop the attack, his right hand gets burnt to a crisp. At this point, Gojo arrives in front of Sukuna and mockingly comments that he shouldn’t be misunderstanding the Six Eyes user because Sukuna is the challenger here. Evidently, the King of Curses is enraged. The chapter ends with the narrator commenting how the strongest curse user, i.e., Gojo, in Jujutsu Kaisen takes the head start in the match between him and Sukuna.
