Bosses in general are the ultimate test of the player, and when you are playing on the Hard difficulty, the test can be grueling. In REPLACED, bosses are brutal as they will hit you with everything they have, only giving you the slightest of breaks in between. I died more than I am willing to admit from Uncle Ben, as the fight was unforgiving, and what is more unforgiving than the fight is the surprise of the second phase. Let’s get into all the attack moves of Uncle Ben and the best way to defend them.
Uncle Ben’s Moveset in REPLACED
The very first thing you should do is to take out Uncle Ben’s armor (2 sets of armor) by using the Heavy attack two times. Once Ben swings his hand, perform a dodge roll behind him and use the Heavy attack to take out armor 1, and repeat it again to take out armor 2. Once both of the armors are taken out, you can damage his HP.
Note: If you see Uncle Ben’s swings with a red icon above him, it means you must dodge the attack by rolling. You can’t counter red color swing attacks; if the icon above the boss is in yellow, then you can counter the attack.
Tornado

Once you land way too many melee hits up close, Ben will execute a tornado move. I will recommend getting out of Ben’s AOE area as quickly as possible to avoid getting hit by the move. Especially on hard, since it took a few hearts from my HP bar, just by getting caught once. This move was one of the main causes of my death in this boss battle. I had to adapt to a new technique of hitting only a few times before rolling out.
I must also mention that the moves are somewhat unpredictable. Sometimes, when you land 3 or 4 melee hits on Ben, he will retaliate with common swing attacks (Red and Yellow).
Charge Attack

Ben will hold back for a few seconds and then charge at you, only once. Here, just perform a simple roll towards Ben to avoid the damage. The worst thing you can do is to dodge on the other side. If Ben is charging you from the right side, then wait until Ben gets close, and then roll towards the right to avoid all the damage. Don’t ever roll towards the left, or you will 100% get caught with his charge attack.
Note: Don’t attack him while he is in the charging animation; that is a sure way to get hit. Only land melee attack once his charge move is over.
Gun Attack (3 times)

After the first block of the health is down, Ben will launch himself to the platform above and start shooting at you three times with his gun. Here, hide behind the pillars to avoid taking damage. You will notice that there are only two pillars, and he will fire his gun three times. Each gunshot will destroy the pillar. After Ben’s two gunshots, both pillars in the arena will be broken. For Ben’s third gunshot, prepare to dodge when the laser sight from his gun turns red. Don’t rest. Once the bullet lands on the floor, it will create an AOE red area. Get out of the area to avoid damage.
After shooting, he will go back to the combat area. We can go back to following the same combat pattern.
Note: This attack only happens once in a phase, and that is when Ben’s health is down to 50%. The same attack sequence will play out in the second phase of Ben’s boss fight.
Gun Attack

If you keep a distance from Ben, then he will retaliate by rolling back to make even more distance. And then he will pull out his gun and shoot once. You can dodge the gunshot by rolling when the laser from the gun turns red. Don’t roll when the laser is in white color, or you will get hit.
Uncle Ben REPLACED Boss Fight – Second Phase Movesets

Just like in the first phase, the second phase will start with Ben with both of his armors attached to his body. Unfortunately, I found the hard way, I immediately started hitting him, but none of my attacks landed. And he did quite a number to my face. So, once the second phase begins and you see him getting up from death, do what you did at the start of the first phase: take both of his armor out with heavy attacks, then start a melee attack or gun attack to damage the boss.
The second phase consists of Ben adding more attacks to the first phase attacks. Don’t worry, the boss will not pull off any new moves; he just adds more swings to his default attacks.
- Swings: Now Ben will swing his hand twice instead of once. So if you perform a dodge roll from the first swing, be prepared to do it again immediately. Ben will always swing twice. If you attack him once, then dodge and prepare for another melee attack.
- Charge: Ben’s charge attack shares the same attack pattern as his Swings. He will now charge in your direction twice, back to back. So, prepare to roll twice to avoid the damage. Follow the technique I mentioned in the first charge attack and repeat it twice.
All the other attack moves stay the same, and the boss follows pretty much the same attack structure as in the first phase.
Tips for Beating Uncle Ben
Since the boss fight can be a bit difficult, here are some helpful tips to help you put up a better fight against Ben.
- The more time you spend near Uncle Ben, the more he will retaliate with swings and tornadoes. So always avoid spending too much time meleeing near him.
- I found an effective cheese move, here just attack once and then roll, that’s it. Once the gun barrel is full, shoot the gun, and you will be safe all the time. I tried this cheese move at the second phase of Uncle Ben’s boss fight, and it worked like a charm. Just hit once with your melee attack and roll, repeat until Ben dies. I tried this one on Hard difficulty and completed the second phase without taking damage. It will look weird to see it in action, but the technique is very effective.
- One of the irritating things about the boss fight are the attacks. They are very difficult to predict whether the next swing attack is either red or yellow. Since yellow swings can be countered, and it also stuns the boss for a few seconds, for free hits. Dodging a yellow swing can be devastating, especially in Hard difficulty. And you just get a few milliseconds of information about the swing being either yellow or red.
- The best way to avoid it is by standing still near the boss, taking the risk. If the icon above him turns red, immediately press roll; if it’s yellow, then counter.
Make sure to get all the healing items and upgrades available to you in REPLACED before getting into this fight.
