Traveling across the Milky Way and going on dangerous adventures, sparks are bound to fly between you and your Starfield companions. Your character will not only be able to pursue them but also have a chance to marry them.
But wooing them is quite an ordeal as these companions have much more complex emotions compared to previous Bethesda game characters like Skyrim and Fallout 4. They could be head over heels for you but get pissed off by something you did or a decision you make and be temporarily angry with you.
So if you’re more of a lover than a fighter, this romance mechanic might be perfectly suited for you. Here are all the romantic candidates and tips you need to know to impress them in Starfield.
Starfield Romance Options
Currently, there are a total of four Constellation members whom you can recruit as companions and pursue as romantic interests in Starfield. They are:

Sarah Morgan
- Recruitment mission: The Old Neighborhood
- Nature: Empathetic, Philosophic, and Diplomatic
- Extra Info: Likes people who care about others
Sarah Morgan is the chair/leader of Constellation and an ex-soldier who has taken upon a mission to explore the vast universe. You will join Sarah and her crew in the early stages of the game, so make sure to use that time wisely if you want her to be a potential romantic partner. She is a very headstrong and diplomatic leader and will often question you regarding philosophy and human nature.

Barrett

- Extra Info: Cannot be recruited as a companion until Back to Vectera, does not like political people
Barrett is the first member of Constellation you meet at the start of the game. He trusts your skills and is an easygoing partner for travel. But he can get a little mad if you’re involved in the politics of Starfield.

- After finishing the “Back to Vectera” main mission, raise Barrett’s affinity towards you by doing good deeds and helping out the Constellation.

- Select [Romance] after finishing the “Breach of Contract” quest.
- Select the [Commitment] option after raising his affinity and finish Barrett’s commitment quest to marry him.
As long as your answers match your free-thinking personality, he will be the perfect candidate to impress.
Sam Coe
- Recruitment mission: The Empty Nest
- Nature: Competent, strong sense of justice, protective
- Extra Info: Has a daughter named Cora and is a loving father
Sam grew up under the strict regime of the Freestar Collective and currently resides in Akila City. He’s an impressive space pilot with three-star rifle certification making him one of the perfect companions for travel.

To romance Sam Coe, here are some tips you need to follow:
- After finishing “The Empty Nest” main mission, raise Sam’s affinity towards you by doing good deeds and helping out the Constellation, and also be kind to his daughter Cora.
- Choose [Flirt] dialogues when prompted.
- Select [Romance] after finishing the “Matters of the Hart” quest.
- Select the [Commitment] option after raising his affinity and finish Sam’s commitment quest to marry him.
With his strong sense of justice and a clear opinion on what’s right and wrong, he’ll be a hard candidate when it comes to Starfield romance. If you adhere to his opinions and do things as instructed, you might have a chance with Sam.
Andreja
- Recruitment mission: Into The Unknown
- Nature: Mysterious, Cautious
- Extra Info: She is cloaked in mystery and her childhood whereabouts are unknown
You will meet Andreja while trying to look for an artifact during the “Into The Unknown” mission in Starfield. She will join your crew as a navigator and astronomer and after a while ask you to keep a secret from Vladimir. If you break her trust, she might loathe you, and make it even harder for you to approach her in the future.
Unlike others, Andreja will overlook any “accidental” murders you might commit while on dangerous missions and will lend you a hand with her theft skills.

To romance Andreja, here are some tips you need to follow:
- After finishing the “Into the Unknown” main mission, raise Andreja’s affinity towards you by stealing, doing bad deeds, and committing to house Va’ruun.
- Choose [Flirt] dialogues when prompted.
- Select [Romance] after finishing the “Divided Loyalties” quest.
- Select the [Commitment] option after raising her affinity and finish Andreja’s commitment quest to marry her.
Conversations and doing missions together is the best way to be closer to any of these potential partners in the game.

How Romance in Starfield Works?
- Each potential romance candidate will have a certain level of affinity towards your character which can increase and decrease based on your word choices.
- Once you reach a certain level of affinity, they will start up conversations themselves, ask for your opinion, and ask for help during missions.
- A [Flirt] dialogue option will also appear while talking to these companions. Use this flirt option at least three times to make sure you let your companion know about your intentions to romance them.
- Eventually, a [Commitment] dialogue will appear where you can devote yourself to your chosen companion, and after a while, you can ask them to marry you and conclude your space love story.
How to quickly complete Romance Paths in Starfield?
To gain affinity faster during your companion’s romance dialogues you need to invest some points in the Leadership skill in the game. Tier 1 of the skill set will grant you +25% more companion affinity while conversing with them.
You can also take an aid item known as ‘Paramour‘ which not only speeds up your companion affinity rate for 10 minutes but also increases the Persuasion chance by 25% for 10 minutes as well. Combining your leadership skills and this Paramour aid guarantees your companion’s affinity towards you increases quickly.
You can check your affinity rate by calculating how fast you can get the [Flirt] and [Commitment] dialogue options to appear, compared to your normal playthrough.
Can You Avoid Romance in Starfield?
Yes, you can definitely avoid the romance paths in Starfield. To avoid romance, simply choose [Friendship] dialogues during conversations with the four romanceable NPCs in the game instead of choosing dialogues highlighted with [Romance].
Can You Date Multiple Companions in Starfield?
Yes, you can pursue and date multiple companions in Starfield. However, you cannot ‘Commit’ to multiple people at the same time. The Commitment option appears when you and your companion have reached a certain point in your romance where you will be able to marry them.
If you try to commit to another one of your romantic interests, they will decline your advances and say that they cannot have a relationship with you when you are already seeing someone else. But you can always try out their romance path in New Game+.
Does Your Romance in Starfield Continue in New Game+?
Unfortunately no, the romance with your preferred companion does not continue after you end Starfield’s main quest and move to the start of a New Game+. You can still romance the same NPCs or even try to pursue someone else who might have piqued your interest.
Keep in mind that the New Game+ is essentially the full restart of your old game with the same skills and traits. So you might have to go through the same set of dialogues while romancing these companions. Just try not to skip the story and enjoy it as it is better for romantic progress.
More potential partners might be added to Starfield at a later time with future DLCs. We just have to wait and see how that pans out.
